Not all of his early artistic
endeavors were fully
appreciated, explains Cousin
Joan (Seyburn) Fenton of
Southfield.
"When he was 12-years-old,
he used to paint designs on my
uncle's silk ties. My uncle had a
fit at the time, but they were
pretty."
McCullough Elementary
School friend Milford Lewis of
Bloomfield Township recalls that
"Kenny was very bright and
outstanding in art class. He also
knew a lot about precious
stones, jewelry, fabrics and
food."
At fifteen, Lane won first prize
over 107 other entries,
representing Central High
School in Detroit's 1948
Christmas Seal design

he was a member of Student
Council, Unity Forum, the
Central Student (school
newspaper) staff, the Spanish
Club and the Art Committee.
He attended the University of
Michigan for two years, then
transferred to the Rhode Island
School of Design where he
obtained a Bachelor of Fine
Arts degree.
When he thinks back to his
days in Michigan, he has to
strain a little for fond memories
for he has lived in New York
longer than he lived here.
"I liked the Fisher Building,
Washington Boulevard, going
out to the farms and getting
sweet corn in the summertime.
We used to go to Charlevoix
every summer, we rented
