weather or too oily? Then ask
yourself how involved you want
to get, target in on your favorite
fragrance, and find a good
salesperson to help you out."
Men are also paying more
attention to their hair as an
important part of their approach
to maintaining a youthful
appearance. A full head of
shining, thick hair styled
according to the latest trends is
often the quest. The style, color
and texture are all important to
a man's image.
"Long hair is out; shorter hair
is in," says Daniel Soller at the
Daniel J. Salon, Farmington
Hills. "The hair is cut close to
the scalp, reminiscent of the
50s, although we're still seeing
some geometric shapes on the
younger set. The flat-top effect is
still strong but soft waves
moving in front of the face and
then combed up and back are
getting attention in men's
magazines."
Businessmen who want a
more conservative image
are projecting themselves with
a clean cut look, especially
around the ears, sides and
back. Sideburns are mid-ear or
slightly shorter.
Highlighting and coloring hair
is no longer unusual for men.
"The idea is to make the color
look as natural as possible on
the man," explains Henri
Mouradian of Henri's Beauty
Salon, Birmingham. "You work
with the customer's skin tone to
figure out how light or dark you
can go. And if it's gray that's
showing, you leave some to
keep it looking natural. It's all
part of wanting to look younger"
Not many are going to admit
it, but Daniel finds that many
younger men are streaking or
coloring their hair tone on tone
such as giving brunette hair
more highlights — coloring just
a few strands of hair with an
auburn coloring. Henri has
some male clients who color
their hair for a particular
to give their entire
occasion
