more significant. Another new trend is for pedicures in addition to the manicures — nails sans color polish but buffed or topped off with a clear polish. She also reports that her salon carries skin care products for men such as moisturizers, cleansers and some cosmetics. Rachel Mukh, owner of La Neige Facial Salon, Southfield, agrees that more men are having facials, manicures and pedicures on a regular basis. "What is wonderful," says Mukh, "is that the men are so comfortable coming into the salon. Our manicures and pedicures are given in one large area and they mix right in with the women. That's how it should be. Not only do pedicures make your feet look good, but they make your feet feel good, too. And the young male athlete is finding that comfort very satisfying." Both Mukh and Tamara Friedman of Tamara's Institute de Beaute in Farmington Hills state that more younger men are having facials on a regular basis. "They see having a facial as part of their grooming," Tamara explains. "They want their skin to be softer; they want to eliminate the black heads; and they want to enjoy the pleasure of being taken care of just as women do. Facials and body massages are no longer just for the rich and famous. American men are learning from their European brothers. They are finding that it pays to spend more on their faces and bodies to look good rather than on things that just hang in the closet." There's no doubt that the cosmetic industry is increasing its products for men. Some companies develop new lines for men such as Mary Kay's Skin Management for Men program while others simply expand their line offering new products.
