project is a handmade line of
evening clothes with prices
ranging from $800-$2,000,
available at Roz & Sherm.
His designs feel like
cashmere, wash like polyester
and wear like steel. Sanchez
relates a Phil Donahue story that
supports this statement.
"I was appearing on Phil
Donahue's show in the morning,
when the producer called and
told me that Phil wanted to wear
one of my robes on television.
Well, the only men's robe I had
was my own. I washed it in the
shower and hung it up to dry.
On the morning of the show, the
robe was impeccable. It looked
like it just came out of the
stock," chuckles Sanchez.
One Sanchez trademark is the
more fabric that he developed
accidently. The moire fabric is
like brushed satin on one side
with cotton on the other. Another
Sanchez trademark is a lace
fan, which adds a tasteful
seductiveness to his collection.
One popular piece is a multi-
colored robe, with four or six
panels of different clashing
colors. Over the years he has
used 75 different colors in
producing this robe. "It has
become a fabulous demand,"
adds Sanchez.
"I love color depending on
the mood, depending on the
light, depending on the city,"
says Sanchez. When Sanchez is
in New York, he loves black.
"But, I only sleep in white
cotton," he reveals. For this
interview Sanchez wore a black
sweater, black pants, mauve shirt
and black tie which accented
his curly, silver hair.
