have in our by-laws that we have latitude as far as who we can put in and why. And I think that's important to have?' The Jewish Hall, like most localized Halls of Fame, does not choose its inductees by a vote. A selection committee, chaired this year by Bob Steinberg and Bill Hertz, presents nominees to the board. The board then dis- cusses the nominees and makes its selections. The board does not vote on its nominees. The selec- tions are made by discussion and consensus of the board members. The Jewish Hall is not a good candidate for contro- versy because, as Grossman says, "our list (of potential inductees) is not so deep. A leading candidate who doesn't make it this year is gonna make it next year." At its meeting last Wednes- day, the Hall also selected its officers. Bill Jacobs remains as president. Vice-presidents are Steinberg, Seymour Brode, Mickey Fishman and Myron Milgrom. Hertz is the treasurer. Elayne Wolfson is the assistant executive direc- tor. Board members are Ann Newman, Nate Pollack, Shirley Foon, Murray Hoz- man, Fred Steinhardt and Leon Shurgin. Grossman hopes the hall will continue to expand and "grow stronger. We hope to add new projects, besides the Special Games. We're looking into several other kinds of projects. We do feel we have a niche in the community. Cer- tainly there's broad support in our community for all kinds of activities. The Jewish community is the best at raising money and taking care of things. But we're in a niche that we think some- times gets overlooked. "Athletics and sports and recreation is sometimes a lux- ury and not a necessity. Although we're looking at it more as a necessity. So we like the niche we've found. By the same token I don't think we take ourselves too serious- ly." ❑ Maccabi Names Soccer Squad Coach Gabriel Attar has announced his 16-member soccer teamwhich will com- pete in the Maccabi Games in Chicago in August. The teams played three times, but only the final game, on Saturday, was played on a regulation-sized floor, according to Akiva coach Moshe Rose. Rochester won that contest, 12-4. Rose reported that Rochester had a better-balanced squad which heavily outshot Akiva. Goalie David Rosenberg was strong in the Akiva nets despite the 12 goals. "He was really under pressure and he came through when he had to," said Rose. Raffle Zuroff scored three Akiva goals, Danny Betsalel added one and Her- shel Goulson assisted on all four markers. Rose says his team enjoyed its trip, and their Rochester hosts. "The people there were very friendly," he said. Detroiter Max Berlin, who at- tends TUINY, helped organize the trip.
