FRIDAY, MARCH 18, 1988

ey, where's that swell
music coming from?
. . . Folks along
Southfield Road probably
asked the question recently.
Harry Kosins was responsi-
ble for opening the doors at
Kosins Clothes on Southfield
. . . and some folks doubled
back to make sure.
People shopping at Kosins
were given an added treat
when songster Jerry Vale, ap-
pearing on the Omni Theatre
stage with accompanist of 35
years, Renaldo Brauer, had
just finished an entire day
from morning on spending
over $14,000 between them.
Jerry then grabbed the in-
door mike and Renaldo went
out to get his trumpet . . . It
was quite a treat for the
customers .. . as Jerry sang
three songs, including his
very popular "Mama" and
"What A Fool Am I."
"You know, Harry, I live in
Beverly Hills, but wait until
I get into Detroit to buy my
clothes" . . . Quite an endorse-
ment ... with Jerry also tell-
ing Harry he can use him in
his ads . . . Pistons coach
Chuck Daly and Red Wings
coach Jacquers Demers are
already Kosins Clothes drum
beaters.
HOW'S THIS for a tur-
nabout in one's life style .. .
After almost 30 years work-
ing the "all night" shift at
WJR, very popular airwaves
personality Jay Roberts will
start in April . . . 5:30 a.m. to
10:30 a.m. . . . on CKLW
Radio (800 AM) ... Well,
folks, Jay always did wonder
what it would be like to see
the sun after work . . . and a
lot of guys 'n gals are mighty
happy that he's finding out.
GET WELL wishes . . . to
wife and hubby Dorothy and
Hy Nudell . . . recuperating
at home after surgeries.
USED OR NEW books for
children eight years and
under are still needed for the
youngsters at Fairview Early
Childhood Center in Farm-
ington Hills . . . Call
Dharlene Norris, 553-3764,
and they will be picked up .. .
If you don't have any, a con-
tribution will be okay, too.
RALPH CHICOREL,
former Detroiter now living
in Whitefish Bay, Wis.,
moved to Milwaukee in 1969
and opened the Weight-
watchers franchise for the
cheese state.
But his claim to fame is be-
ing a composer . . . recently

on the same program with
works by Shostokovich and
Bizet . . . plus the appearance
of Mel Ibrme as guest artist
. . . Ralph's "Milwaukee" was
played by the 86-piece
Milwaukee Symphony Or-
chestra . . . to capacity au-
diences of 2,000 each for three
nights.
REUNION BY Alger
Elementary 1900-1945 is
April 23, 7 p.m. at Kingsley
Inn . . . with committee made
up of Harry Lipsitz, Lou
Linden, Sol Penskar, Gerald
Gerger, Ethel Friedman
Conn, George Taxe and
Sidney Goldberg . . . Contact
Lou at Efros Drugs on Green-
field and Ten Mile, 557-3400.
MOLLY ABRAHAM,
restaurant reviewer for the
Detroit Free Press, is guest
speaker (and very interesting)
at April 25 Art Fair '88, 1
p.m., by Temple Israel on
Walnut Lake Rd. . . . The gals
will also have the works the
day before, April 24 . . . Both
days are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
with little shops of art and
lunch in the Temple Avenue
Cafe . . . For tickets, call ducat
chairgals Francine Prell,
355-5825, or Harriett Trager,
661-0591.
HAROLD FINEGOOD
tells this one . . . about Jim
Bakker and Jimmy Swaagart
having a television show
together . . . They'll call it "I
Love Loosely."
NEW OUTDOOR pool of
Franklin Racquet Club (75' x
50') opens May 28 . . . so don't
let the winter doldrums get
you down . . . Start thinking
summer and those wonderful
pool splashes
. . . Franklin is on North-
western Hwy. and the pool
will also have cool drinks and
a bite to eat outside with a
bar and grill.

Iden.
