Jewish Scouts
Win Banners
Cub Scout Pack 1576, the
only synagogue-sponsored
Scout pack in metro Detroit,
was presented with banners
in recognition of its summer
.program and its involvement
in and support of Cub Scout
Shabbat (Feb. 13).
A long time goal of Rabbi
David Nelson of Cong. Beth
Shalom, the Cub Scout pack
was started at Cong. Beth
Shalom almost one year ago
to offer young boys in the com-
munity an opportunity to
share the scouting experience
in a Jewish environment.
Nine boys formed the first
den, and the group grew in
just a few months to include
22 boys in three dens from
Tiger Cubs (first graders) to
Webelos (fifth graders).
Synagogue Board Members
Terry Brown and Cary
Adelman lead the pack.
The synagogue will sponsor
a Campfire Girls troop in the
fall. The Cub Scout pack and
Campfire Girls troop are open
to children from every con-
gregation, whether Reform,
Conservative, or Orthodox, or
the unaffiliated.
Cub Scout Pack 1576 meets
Thursdays at 7 p.m. Call
Brown, 545-5039; or
Adelman, 546-7849, for
information.
