Due to the cost involved, Great Scott! will discontinue
redeeming coupons at double their face value as of
March 20th Here are some tips to help you maximize
your coupon savings at face value._
For beginners, a 4x6 inch plastic file box is perfect for
your coupons. You need that size, not the 3x5 inch
because most coupons fit neatly into the larger file box
Next, buy two packages of ABC divider cards. If you turn
the cards around. the tabs are blank and you can write
in the different categories for filing your coupons. The nice
feature of using a file box is that the lid can be used for
holding the coupons you are redeeming. When you get
to the checkout counter, you have all the coupons in one
place. It works great! When your coupon collection
reaches the point where the file box is overflowing, then
it's time to move up to the handy, large shoe box. These
come in many varieties. The two I have used are the
Men's shoe box (most shoe boxes from ladies shoes are
too narrow), and the collapsable type. The file box you
have outgrown will fit perfectly in the back of your new
larger coupon box and will come in handy to hold the
coupons you are going to redeem.
Meanwhile back to the dividers. Naturally, everybody's
shopping needs and personal tastes are different, so each
individual should develop their own coupon categories
To help you get started, I am going to list the categories
I have developed over the last few years. Pick and choose
as you like, and remember, you may want to expand
a particular category. Many people expand on the
cereal category by including the different manufacturers
like Kellogg, Post, etc. Categories for the coupon box . Air
freshener, baby items, baking, bar soap, bread,
breakfast foods, butter and margarine, cakes and pies
(including frostings and pie fillings), candy, catsup and
mustard, cereal, cheese. cleaning products, Col-
fee/teatocoa, cookiestrackers, dental care, deodorants,
diet foods, dish soap, drink mixes, entrees, facial tissues,
feminine hygiene, fish, fruit, hair care, ice
cream/miscellaneous frozen, Insect repellent, jello/pud-
dings, juice, laundry products, make-up, meats.
medicines, oils/shortening, panty hose, paper
cups/plates/napkins, paper toweling, peanut butter/jel-
ly, pet foods, pizza, pop, rice, noodlesduffing, salad dress-
ing, saucesteasonings, shaving products, smoking pro-
ducts, soups, toilet paper, trash bags, vegetables,
wraps/foils, and yogurtsdairy products.
