The Michigan Chapter of the American Friends of the Hebrew University
mourn, with deep sorrow, the passing of our esteemed colleague and
benefactor.
CHARLES E. FEINBERG
A Founder of the Hebrew University activities in the State of Michigan,
he served as the Chapter's Honorary Co-Chairman. A leading American
bibliophile, Mr. Feinberg was an Honorary Consultant to the Library of
Congress. He served for many years as National Chairman of the Ad-
visory Board of the Hebrew University's Jewish National and University
Library. A major benefactor of the University, Charles Feinberg was an
Honorary Vice President of the American Friends of the Hebrew Univer-
sity and, for over 30 years, served as a member of the Board of Gover-
nors of the Hebrew University. In 1969, an Honorary Fellowship was con-
ferred upon him by the University and in 1987, he was named an
Honorary Alumnus. In 1988, he was the recipient of the S. Y. Agnon Gold
Medal Award symbolizing the Hebrew University's highest standard of
intellectual achievement. Mr. Feinberg was also Past President of the
Detroit Association of Phi Beta Kappa and he served as Chairman of
the Michigan Historical Commission.
His loss will be felt internationally and we extend our sympathy to his
wife, Lenore, and children, Susan, Judy and Bartley.

Oak Park, died March 4. Sur-
vived by three sons, Michael,
Stanley and David of Ann Ar-
bor; a sister, Mrs. Shirle Irv-
ing of California; and six

RITA BERLIN, 89, died
March 5. She leaves two sons,
Byron of East Lansing and
Jean David of Sun City, Ariz.;
eight grandchildren and eight
great-grandchildren.
JENNIE BERMAN, 90, of
Southfield, died March 8. Sur-
vived by a son, Jack; two
daughters, Mrs. Harold (Bet-
ty) Ellias and Mrs. Eugene

grandchildren.

JULIA PATAKI, 105, of Bir-
mingham, died March 2. Sur-

CLARA REIMER, 79, of
Oak Park, died March 8. Sur-
vived by a son, Donald; a
daughter, Mrs. Sylvia
Druckman; and five
grandchildren.
Harry H. Brenner, a retired
grocery merchant, died Feb.
29 at age 76.
Born in Russia, Mr. Bren-
ner was the co-founder of
Brenner Brothers Markets,
which he had started during
the Depression and grew to
six stores. He was in charge
of food distribution for the
State of Michigan during
World War II.
He was on the board of
directors of the Nomads
Travel Club, a member of the
BPOE of Bloomfield Hills,
founder of the Parents Foun-
dation, a fund to establish
group homes for retarded
children.
He leaves his wife, Marjorie;
a son, Larry; two daughters,
Shary Sundstrom of Cary,
N.C., and Jari of Stanford,
Calif.; two brothers, Nathan
of Huntington Beach, Calif.,
and Benjamin of Reseda,
Calif.; two sisters, Mary
Bieman and Ann Weisman;
and three grandchildren.

A native Detroiter, Mrs.
Karden was a member of

of Jewish Women, Sinai
Hospital Guild, Women's
American ORT and the Han-
nah Schloss Old Timers.
She leaves three daughters,

Eugene Weiss
Eugene Weiss, past presi-
dent of Cong. B'nai Moshe,
died March 6 at age 82.
Born in Czechoslovakia, Mr.
Weiss was a Detroiter for
many years prior to moving to
North Miami Beach, Fla. He
was a meat packing
executive.
He leaves his wife, Fay; four
daughters, Rose Weiner of
West Bloomfield, Ellen Weiss,
Adrian Rubin and Sandra
Rubin, both of North Miami
Beach, Fla.; ten grand-
children and two great-
grandchildren. Interment
