Swiss Cancel
Israel Visit

Geneva (JTA) — The Swiss
newspaper La Tribune de
Geneve reported that a profes-
sional visit to Israel by 180
Swiss army reserve officers
has been cancelled because of
the disturbances in the Is-
raeli-administered territories.
However, neither the for-
eign office nor the defense
ministry last week confirmed
that they had applied "dis-
creet pressure" against the
trip. But the foreign office ad-
mitted that it had asked the
officers not to wear their
uniforms while in Israel and
not to visit the West Bank or
the Golan Heights.
The officers reportedly de-
cided that a visit by - them to
Israel under present cir-
cumstances could be misin-
terpreted. The trip was
organized by the Israeli
military attache in Bern,
Mordechai Alon, with the
assistance of the Swiss army
chief of staff, Eugene Luthy,
who visited Israel last year.
The reservists belong to the
Association of Swiss Officers,
an independent group that
schedules trips abroad for its
members each year. Last year,
about 30 toured the United
States and inspected military
installations there.

Sadat Kin
Seeks Peace

Washington (JTA) —
Camelia Sadat, daughter of
the late Egyptian President
Anwar, will be joined by Elie
Wiesel and Lord Michael
Seiff, chairman of Marks &
Spencers, in meeting with
Israeli Foreign Minister
Shimon Peres in late April as
part of a private mission seek-
ing peace in the Middle East.
Sadat, who is working to-
ward her doctorate in peace
studies at Boston University,
said at a meeting with mem-
bers of Congress last week
that the mission will be spon-
sored by the Sadat Peace
Foundation, a private group
seeking to achieve peace
through economic coopera-
tion between Egypt and
Israel.
"The mission plans to meet
with members of the Israeli
Knesset and the Palestinian
leaders from the West Bank
and Gaza," she said. "We in-
tend to initiate a dialogue be-
tween Palestinians and Is-
ra*elis that could reduce
tensions and pave the way for
the diplomatic initiatives be-
ing pursued by the United
States."
