Syria Harbors
War Criminal

Geneva (JTA) — Nazi-
hunter Beate Klarsfeld has
again accused the Syrian
government of harboring
Alois Brunner, one of the
most notorious Nazi war
criminals still at large, and of
ignoring appeals that he be
brought to justice.
Speaking before the United
Nations Human Rights Com-
mission last week, Klarsfeld
referred to a letter written
last October by the Rev. Jesse
Jackson, a candidate for the
Democratic Party presiden-
tial nomination, to President
Hafez Assad of Syria.
Jackson travelled to Syria
in 1984 and" gained the
release of captured American
flier Robert Goodman from
the Syrian government. He
reportedly established cordial
relations with Assad.
But the letter about Brun-
ner has yet to be answered,
Klarsfeld said. She said
Jackson wrote that "the
heinous acts against humani-
ty of the Third Reich cry out
even this day for justice:'
