K KOSHER Allied Jewish Campaign volunteers are working hopes of taking home the prized 1988 Community Achieve- ment Award, for the Cam- paign division which records the highest percentage of secured pledges between now and the Campaign closing, April 11. With just over a month to go before the community- wide celebration, several divi- sions have scheduled meetings and telethons. The Chiropractors Section of the Campaign's Profes- sional Health Division will meet Thursday in the home of Dr. David A. Kirsch. David and Doreen Hermelin will host the Cam- paign's Social Service Section on March 8, and the At- torneys Section, March 10. All three meetings begin at 7:30 p.m. The Social Service Section meeting will provide members with the opportuni- ty to meet and hear Jonathan Livny, the former attorney general of Israel's West Bank. A sabra, Livny was the youngest law student at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and the youngest Israeli to become a lawyer, at the age of 21. Following the Six-Day War, he became the first attorney general for the West Bank. He is a veteran of the Israel Defense Forces. Alan S. Funk is chairman of the Social Service Section of the Allied Jewish Campaign. Livny will also address a meeting of the Campaign's $5,000 Committee, 7:45 a.m. March 9 at the offices of Mad- din, Weiner, Hauser, Wartell and Roth, in Southfield. Michael Maddin and Mark Hauser are $5,000 Commit- tee chairmen. The Attorneys Section will host Federal Judge Avern Cohn, who will discuss "Legal Issues: Israel and the West Bank." A past president of the Jewish Welfare Federation and a current member of its executive committee, Cohn has served as a vice chairman of the Allied Jewish Campaign. Cohn is a board member of the United Jewish Charities, a past vice president of the Jewish Community Council and a past national vice presi- dent of the American Jewish Committee. He is a recipient of the Zionist Organization of America's Justice Louis D. Brandeis Award. Norman D. Katz and Charles H. Tobias are Jonathan Livny Judge Avern Cohn chairmen of the Attorneys Section.
