Yeshivah Dinner, Concert
Will Honor Rabbi Kahn
"In recognition of his
outstanding service as a com-
munity leader and his
achievements on behalf of
Yeshivath Beth Yehudah,"
Executive Vice-President
Rabbi Norman Kahn will be
honored at the schools' mid-
winter affair, March 14 at the
Michigan Inn.
The dinner concert will
feature the Jerusalem Great
Synagogue Choir with Con-
ductor Elli Jaffe and Cantor
Naftali Herstik.
Rabbi Kahn, who has been
with the Beth Yehudah
schools for nearly 30 years,
has helped the schools grow
to a roster of 600 students.
The schools, with centers in
Southfield and Beverly Hills,
Mich., include a division of
Beth Yehudah, the Sally
Allan Alexander Beth Jacob
School for Girls.
As part of the evening's
agenda, the yeshivah has ap-
proved plans to name the
girl's school driveway Nor-
man Kahn Drive in tribute to
Rabbi Kahn. A street sign
and plaque will be erected in
the Beth Jacob School foyer
and Rabbi Kahn will also
receive a commemorative, or-
namental sign as a
remembrance.
A graduate of Brooklyn Col-
lege, Rabbi Kahn was ordain-
ed at Mesivta Torah Vodaath.
Voted "esteemed man of the
year" in 1984, Rabbi Kahn
was awarded the highest
honor of acknowledgment
given, by has fellow alumni at
Torah Vodaath.
Rabbi Kahn was also
awarded the "Chasan Torah"
award by Torah Schools for
Israel, as well as having been
recognized by the Ladies of
Yeshivah Beth Yehudah. Rab-
bi Kahn recently was honored
by P'TACH (Parents for Torah
for All Children).

He serves on the executive
committee of the National
Society of Hebrew Day School
Administrators, as well as on
several other civil and com-
munity executive boards and
charitable organizations.

Israel Summer
Programs Open
Short summer ulpan is one
of several programs offered to
North American students and
young adults by the Kibbutz
Aliyah Desk, an organization
responsible for the promotion
of programs for all kibbutz
movements in Israel. In the
Detroit area it is representd
by the Israel Program Center
at the Maple/Drake Jewish
Community Center.
College students and young
adults can participate in the
short summer ulpan, a ten-
week program open to anyone
between the ages of 18 and 27
which is offered on various
kibbutzim throughout Israel.

place on the kibbutz, with
