Jerome Hauser, who died Feb. 20 at age 80. With his wife, Diane, Dr. Hauser shared many ac- tivities in the Jewish Welfare Federation and the Allied Jewish Campaign, in Zionism, the Jewish National Fund and numerous other causes. Dr. and Mrs. Hauser were extended Israeli and local recognition when they were honored at a dinner at Cong. Shaarey Zedek on the occa- sion of the planting of a JNF forest in Israel in 1973. Former chief of staff at Sinai Hospital, Dr. Hauser was an ear, nose and throat specialist, before retiring in 1978. A 1931 graduate of the University of Michigan Medical School, Dr. Hauser was Sinai's eye, ear, nose and throat department chief from 1952 to 1970. He was chief of staff from 1961 to 1967. Dr. Hauser was a professor of otolaryngology at Wayne State University Medical School. During World War II, Dr. Hauser was a lieutenant col- onel in the Army Medical Corps. He was a longtime board member of the Jewish Community Center. Dr. Hauser's communal ser- vice activities included a longtime association with the Jewish Welfare Federation and its Allied Jewish Cam- paign. He had been a member of the Deroit Service Group, having first served the Allied Jewish Campaign as chair- man of the Professional Divi- sion. Dr. Hauser leaves his wife, Diane; two daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Nina) Swanson and Mrs. Michael (Marjorie) Federman; a brother, Dr. Maurice; two sisters, Mrs. Yale (Anne) Smith of Flint and Mrs. Herbert (Frances) Metz of San Diego, Calif.; and two grandchildren. Philanthropist D. Silver Aided Many Causes David I. Silver, active in Zionist activities in the Detroit area for more than 40 years, died Feb. 19. Mr. Silver, 87, was a past president of the Jewish Na- tional Fund Council of Detroit and worked to involve local synagogues in support for Israel. A forest of 20,000 tress was planted in Israel in his honor. He was a past president of Cong. Beth Achim, was active with the Hebrew Benevolent Society, and with his wife Esther contributed toward the administration building Gardner, bet. He served on the boards of Labor Zionist Alliance, Farband and the Detroit Interfaith Roundtable of the National Conference of Christians and Jews. Mr. Silver was born in Poland and came to Detroit in 1932. He owned Day's Fashions Inc., a ladies store in Hamtramck.
