Coach Moishe Rose:
Looks to the future.

Fellow 10th-grader Joel
Kruger says, "I think all the
credit goes to Raffle. Last year
Raffle was the one that
started the hockey team. He
got people to join, he en-
couraged people to play."
While the team is inspired
by the success of the Akiva
basketball program, they also
operate in its shadow.
"The administration, the
principals and the executive
director," says Rose," they've
been helpful in seeing that we
have time to practice
whenever it's available, but
that's about it. I dont't even
know if the executive commit-
tee knows that we're in ex-
istance." The players, he adds,
"have been raising money,
selling jewelry, calling (peo-
ple). They really have been
doing some hard work to see
that the program gets off the
ground .. .
"Hopefully, within a couple
weeks we'll have uniforms.
We've already got a style pick-
ed out and everything picked
out. We've just got to finish
getting the money together
that's already been pledged."
Goulson, who also plays on
the basketball team, says of
that squad, "There is more
acknowledgment about it,
there is a little more fame,
you might say . . . It's also
three years old. I personally
have more fun playing
hockey?'
Another problem the
students have is Akiva's
heavy academic load. Kruger
says, "a lot of times you can
persuade the teachers not to
give us homework. Raffle, he's
good at persuading teachers
to give us extended time on
tests:'
While Rose and the team
concentrate on this season,
