Akiva will of- fer a special Mishloach Manot service to Israel for Purim. It will include train- ing instruction, formal prac- tices and tournament play. Dr. Mantel's daughter, Michelle, is a four-time Na- tional Junior Table Tennis champion. The league is open to all Jewish teenagers between the ages of 13 and 17. Those teens who qualify will be invited to participate with the Metropolitan Detroit Table Tennis team to this- 1988 Mac- cabi games August in Chicago. The firs meeting of the league will take place on Feb. 28 in the home of Dr. Mantel, 21819 Constitution, Southfield at 7 p.m. On Sunday, NCSY will visit the maternity ward at Sinai Hospital. The event will be proceeded by a short discus- sion of the mitzvah of bikur cholim, visiting the sick. After visiting the hospital members will go to the Kafe Katon in Oak Park for a piz- za dinner. The group will meet at 2:30 p.m. at Young Israel of Greenfield. On Wednesday, NCSY will have its annual bowl-a-thon fund raiser at 6:30 p.m. at Hartfield Lanes in Berkley. NCSY'es are sponsored for a certain amount per point as they bowl a total of three games. Anyone interested in sponsoring a NCSY'er should contact Naomi Berkove, 557-0232; or Ari Schochet, 357-1666. Proceeds will go for NCSY programs. NCSY will go on a ski trip to Mt. Brighton on Feb. 7. Buses will leave at 1:30 p.m. from Yeshivat Akiva. The theme of the weekend is "Purim in the '80s," and will feature a live Jewish rock band, educators from across the Eastern part of the U.S. and a select advisory staff comprised of college and yeshivah students from throughout the country. The Detroit delegation will join NCSY'ers from Cleveland and Pittsburgh. NCSY's Chumash and Nosh class meets every Mon- day at Young Israel of Southfield at 7;30 p.m. The class is open to all interested Jewish teens between the ages of 13 and 17 regardless of previous religious training. Tu B'Shevat Seder Planned The Fresh Air Society will present a Tu B'Shevat pro- gram for kindergarten through seventh grades in the . Esther Katzman Social Hall of Temple Emanu-El on Sunday. J.E.F.F., Jewish Experience for Families, with support from the newly established J.E.F.F. Committee of Temple Emanu-El, will create a Tu B'Shevat Seder for fourth- sixth graders and their families. The Seder will take place on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in the Katzman Hall. M.S.T.Y, Michigan State Temple Youth, will have a winter conclave at Temple Emanu-El the weekend of Feb. 5-7. The weekend will see temple youth groups from the Michigan region par- ticipating in services, Oneg Shabbat, song sessions, educational programming and friendship circle. All members will be housed in private homes in the area. Various arms of Temple Emanu-El will be providing meals.
