A

heck of a good hus-
band-and-wife team in
more ways than one
. . . Simone and Jeanne
Vitale . . . As a couple they're
tops . . . as musical compa-
nions they're among the best
. . . singing together over ten
years while playing for wed-
dings, bar mitzvahs, etc.
Simone plays guitar and
sings . . . All Jeanne has to do
is stand there, but she sings
wonderfully in the orchestra
headed by her hubby . . . the
Simone Vitale Band.
He writes commercials, too,
and Jeanne sings them .. .
You might have heard her do-
ing stuff for Tubby Submar-
ine, Ram's Horn Restaurants,
Northland, Broadway, etc.
He also owns Simone Vitale
Associates advertising and
public relations . . . Even
their two children sing and
play musical instruments .. .
Melissa, 8, tickles piano
ivories, and Dominick, 4, is
starting on the guitar.
When Jeanne and Simone
do an affair, they're also
public relations agents for the
party givers . . . spending
their breaks mingling among
guests.
Others in the very fine
Simone Vitale Band are .. .
Mark Bertachi, drums; Mary
Chris Porter, vocalist with
Jeanne; Ross Pooley, an excep-
tional flutist and sax gent;
Ray Glowacz, keyboard; and
Steve Backus, bass.
Those big smiles while on
stage aren't put-ons . . .
Simone and Jeanne love their
work . . . they love people .. .
they love being together .. .
they love life . . . and each
other.
IT'S VERY possible that
Detroit may rank number one
in the nation for having the
most good delis . . . New York
and Chicago may have more,
but they certainly don't rate
as good in my book . . . New
York has more only because
there is a much greater
number of Jewish people liv-
ing there . . . And Chicago is
mentioned in many breaths
only because most of the bet-
ter grades of beef are
manufactured in its locale.
REBECCA Goldbaum sez
. . . "Congratulations to Fran-
ci (Shanbrom) Silver on her
graduation from Detroit Col-
lege of Law. Another wedding
on the way, congratulations to
Denise Bernard and Hadas
Reiter.
"Always a great restaurant

worth reviewing is the Golden
Mushroom. Fred and I went
there for New Year's Eve. The
restaurant was packed — but
our 8 p.m. reservation was
honored on time. The service
was of golden style. If
someone has never tried their
mushroom soup — yum — it
is a must. We both had
wonderful dishes. Mine, filet
mignon, his sirloin steak,
both cooked to exactly our
discriminating tastes. Reid
Ashton's Golden Mushroom is
a beautiful place for a fine
meal. Prices are high but
worth every penny. Excellent
food, service, atmosphere, and
on this particular New Year's
for me, terrific company.
"Carlos Murphy's seems to
be the big hangout for the up
and coming (where and
whatever that is!). Almost
any night of the week the bar
is booming with all kinds of
crowds — college, young adult
division, past graduates of the
BBYO program, doctors,
lawyers, stockbrokers — they
all hang out at Carlos'. On the
weekends they have a singer
who blares out old popular
tunes. The yuppies love it and
keep coming back. Who did I
see there? — Karyn Stewart,
Marcy Hyman, Linda Silver-
man, Sandy and Steve Katz-
man, Eric Randolph, Gary
Schwartz, Ted Efros, Adam
Baker, Mike Wais, Keith Kay
and many more faces. Carlos
Murphy's is a fine restaurant
too. Burgers, chicken, nachos
of all varieties — you could
practically design your own.
Margaretas are made in any
flavor you can think of —
banana, etc.
"The new Eddie Murphy
movie is pretty good. He does
a funny skit about Bill Cosby
and Michael Jackson, but yet
his mouth is dirtier than his
jokes — he's also richer for it
too.
Congratulations to Miriam
Mayer and Bill Raminick on
their recent marriage. Con-
gratulations to Linda
Rosenberg on her new job at
Ford Motor Co. Congratula-
tions to Jamie Murray and
Vicki White on their engage-
ment."
