McInerney's first novel is
Cong. Beth Achim an-
nounces that applications for
the scholarships which it
sponsors are now available to
young people who have com-
pleted the first year of college.
These scholarships enable the
awardees to study at Israeli
institutions of higher
learning.
The longest continuing
scholarship offered by the con-
gregation is the Harry and
Sarah Laker Israel Youth
Scholarship which provides
for a $2,500 grant to a stu-
dent for study at one of
Israel's universities.
The Samuel and Dora
Kobaker memorial Scholar-
ship provides for a student to
study at either a university in
Israel or an equivalent in-
stitution and offers a $1,500
grant.
The Robert and Gertrude
Berman Scholarship is of-
fered for a Judaic studies pro-
gram to be pursued either in
Israel, the United States or
any other country which pro-
vides for a serious program of
Jewish learning. This scholar-
ship also provides a $1,500
grant to the winner.
All these scholarships re-
quire that the applicants
have applied for admission to
the institutions of their choice
and that the winners are
prepared to pursue study for
an academic year at the in-
stitutions where they have
been accepted.

Mile, Southfield. Application
deadline is April 15. Each ap-
plicant will be interviewed.
The scholarship winners will
be presented with their
awards on May 22.

will present a lecture by Avi
Hadari entitled, "Israel's
Culture and Politics as
Reflected in its Popular
Music," 7:30 p.m. Monday in
the Pond Room of the
Michigan Union.
Hadari is on the drama
faculty of Tel Aviv Universi-
ty. He was artist-in-residence
at the Jewish Center of
Greater Boston last year and
is now on the faculty of
Brandeis University and
Hebrew College.

Goes to WMU
Machon L'Torah, the Jewish
Learning Network of
Michigan, in conjunction
with the Hillel Student
Organization of Western
Michigan University, will
hold a brunch and discussion
at the university in
Kalamazoo on Sunday.
The Hillel co-ordinator for
the event is Allen Cohen of
WMU. The topic for the event,
which will be held at the
Eldridge Apartments on cam-
pus, is "How to Maintain
Your Jewish Identity on a
Non-Jewish Campus" and
will be followed by an open
discussion on the Middle
East.

Nosanchuk
Named To JNF
Laurie Nosanchuk
Laurie Nosanchuk has been
appointed assistant regional
director of Jewish National
Fund.
Nosanchuk is a graduate of
Michigan State University,
where she majored in the
arts. She has worked in the
field of legal and medical ad-
ministration and, for the ma-
jority of her fund-raising
career, was associated with
Pepperdine University,
Malibu, Calif. She worked in
the fund-raising and campus
development office where she
structured campaigns for the
operating and development
budgets of the university.
