The Midrasha College of Jewish Studies is offering several classes this semester geared for teachers. "Critical Thinking Skills," based on Benjamin Bloom's Taxonomy of Learning, will be taught by Jessie Baker, supervisor of the department of language instruction who is currently working in the of- fice of curriculum develop- ment of the Detroit Board of Education. The class will meet on Feb. 3, 10, 17 and 24. "Tesa — Thacher Expecta- tions Affect Student Achieve- ment" will be taught by Gwen Hairabedian, staff development consultant of Oakland Schools, March 9, 16, 23 and 30. On April 13, 20 and 27, Maxwell Nadis, former school principal and consultant on "Assertive Discipline," will teach how to set clear limits with appropriate conse- quences for students in the classroom. Three credits towards religious school teacher cer- tification may be earned. All classes will meet on Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. at the Reform College of Jewish Studies at Temple Beth El. On the master's degree level, a new course, "Exile and Return: Historical Foun- dations of Post-Biblical Judaism," will be offered by Wayne State University Prof. of Near Eastern Studies, Dr. Ivan Starr. Yiddish language and literature courses include "Beginner's Yiddish" and "Yiddish for Caseworkers or Volunteers in Gerontological Settings." A variety of courses are of- fered in the Jewish Studies program. "Aharon Applefeld: Approaches to the.Holocaust" and "Dreams and Realiza- tions through Israeli Poetry — Early Zionists to the Disen- chanted" are being taught on Monday evenings with Dr. Abraham Balaban. A special program entitled "Midrasha on Wheels" is for nine or more people who wish to study together on a non- credit basis outside of the Midrasha's Sigmund and Sophie Rohlik Bulding.
