barrassing public questions
about Kalmanovitz when he
failed to appear for his trial,
which had been scheduled to
start next month.
Indeed, the Israelis were
probably extremely reluctant
to let the Americans know
that Kalmanovitz had been
arrested. There is, after all, a
substantial degree of in-
telligence cooperation and in-
formation sharing between
the two allies, and Washing-
ton would certainly not take
a sanguine view of the fact
that the Israelis had allowed
a Soviet agent to operate
undetected under their noses
for 17 years.
Kalmanovitz, if indeed he is
a Soviet agent, is by no means
the only spy who arrived in
Israel during the '70s when
Soviet leader, Brezhnev open-
ed the doors of his country to
the emigration of about
500,000 Jews.
At least 20 of these im-
migrants were found to have
engaged in espionage for
Moscow — some for financial
gain, others because they
sought to ensure the safety of
family members still left in
the Soviet Union, and still
others, no doubt, for reasons
of ideology.
The question that obviously
arises is how much damage
Kalmanovitz may have
caused during his 17-year
spree. According to sources,
while Kalmanovitz managed
to insinuate himself into
Israel's "high society" par-
ticularly the social class of
senior politicians and mili-
tary officers — he did not
himself ever achieve high of-
fice or gain access to the in-
ner sanctums of the state.
Nevertheless, he would un-
doubtedly have had access to
secrets — through his work
for the Soviet Jewish emigra-
tion movement, which
brought him into contact not
only with the activists but
also with the strategists, both
overt and covert, who were at-
tached to the Prime Minis-
ter's Office.
He would also undoubtedly
have heard secrets through
his social contacts with senior
officials.
What sort of future is in
store for Kalmanovitz? Un-
like his native Soviet Union,
Israel does not apply the
death penalty for spying. He
is likely to be charged with
espionage (which carries a life
sentence) and with maintain-
ing contact with a foreign
agent (15 years).

What A Way To Live!
If you're an allergy sufferer, it probably won't console
you much to know you have lots of company — starting with
the first recorded history. The Bible mentions hives, and
public records show allergies and allergic reactions causing
deaths. Julius Caesar suffered with allergies.
Why can six people sleep on the same pillow, play with
the same dog, eat the same food and breathe the same air
that a seventh can't? Why do some have allergies and others
don't?
It can't be the object itself that causes
the reaction. The answer is in the body
of the sufferer. He has low resistance to
irritants and isn't able to throw them off
as a normal body does.
The powerful allies of the body that
defend it against foreign substances, in a
normal person, are in good working
order. The defense mechanisms — white
blood cells, the lymph system, and waste-
eliminating systems — are all kept in
Dr. Stanley Levine order by the nervous system.
The nervous system starts in the brain and the nerve
trunks are threaded through the vertebrae in the spine. The
surrounding bones.protect them unless there is even a slight
dislocation of the vertebrae. The misaligned bones pinch the
nerves, cutting down on the messages and nerve energy sent.
When this happens, the part of the body controlled by the
distorted nerve impulses cannot function properly. Like a
drunken driver, the nerves can get into all kinds of trouble.
The real cause of allergies, then, is not the allergen itself,
but due to distorted nerve impulses caused by a spinal
vertebrae being out of its proper place. Interference of the
nerve impulses causes the body to weaken.
We believe the only way to address the allergy problem
is to attempt to get rid of the weakness . . . to strengthen the
body's natural defenses by restoring its ability to send nerve
impulses.
