The National Council of
Jewish Women, Greater
Detroit Section, will hold a
two-day CASA training ses-
sion for persons interested in
working in its Court-
Appointed Special Advocates
legal guardianship program.
The sessions will take place
from 9:30 a.m. to noon Jan. 28
and 29. The Jan. 28 meeting
will take place at the N.C.J.W.
offices in Southfield, and the
Jan. 29 training session will
be held at the Oakland Coun-
ty Courthouse. Guest speaker
will be Probate Court At-
torney Bill Bartlum. The pro-
gram is open to the public.
CASA began its legal guar-
dianship program 21/2 years
ago to do home studies and in-
vestigate legal guardianship
cases for the Oakland Coun-
ty Probate Court. Chairman
Marilyn Levine explains that
CASAs advocate for the child
and testify in court regarding

a youngster's best possible

placement.
The program is sponsored
by the section's public affairs
department, headed by Vice
President Ann Zousmer.
Janet Fienberg and Diane
Brooks also serve on the
CASA Legal Guardianship
Committee.

CASA Training Session

B'nai Israel Offers
Classes For All Ages

Cong. B'nai Israel of West
Bloomfield is offering classes
on a wide range of topics.
Rabbi Sherman Kirshner
has inaugurated post b'nai
mitzvah 1 and 2 for Jewish
teens encompassing the en-
tire Jewish life cycle for the
younger group, and a course
of study in Mishna for the
older group.
An accomplished cantor,
Rabbi Kirshner will teach
adults to lead a Sabbath mor-
ning service professionally as
lay cantors and to master
Torah reading.
The rabbi's adult bat mitz-
vah class continues. Six adult
women meet weekly to learn
Haftorah blessings, trop, a
Haftorah and many of the
elements of Jewish law and
lore. An adult bat mitzvah is
planned for next summer.

The Chavurah (friendship)
group of young adults of
Cong. B'nai Israel will con-
duct a special study group
under the leadership of Kerry
and Elaine Greenhut,
chairmen, in the home of Bar-
bara and Bob Klein, 5801
Cherry Crest Dr., West
Bloomfield, on Jan. 24 at 7
p.m. Under the rabbi's
guidance, the first session is
dedicated to "The Birth of a
Child in Judaism and the
Ramifications of Abortion in
Jewish Law."

Rabbi Kirshner's Yiddish
class continues in the home of
Bertha and Morris Bletstein,
6121 Orchard Lake Rd., West
Bloomfield, on Sunday at 7:30
p.m.
All classes are open to B'nai
Israel members and the com-

Abortion Topic
At B'nai Moshe

"Why Should Federation
Money Be Spent to Support
Abortion" is the topic for
discussion by B'nai Moshe
spiritual leader, Rabbi Allan
S. Meyerowitz, in the fourth of
the "Lunch With the Rabbi"
series to be held after Shab-
bat services at Cong. B'nai
Moshe on Jan. 23 at 12:30
p.m.
The program is held under
the auspices of the B'nai
Moshe Cultural Commission,
chaired by Susan Friedman.
There is a charge for the
lunch, and advance reserva-
tions must be made by calling
Marjorie Lazarus, 541-5213,
or the synagogue office,
548-9000. Esther Roth and
Helen Weiss are in charge of
luncheon arrangements.
Persons not participating in
the luncheon may attend the
program portion at no charge.
