Ironically, this is where Cullan's grandfather, William Meathe, used to get Col. Russell Alger's Packard limousine serviced years back. When visiting dignitaries, celebrities, show biz stars, Fortune 500 executives, etc. come to Detroit, many want those big stretch limos to cart them around . . . The one best known to them because it is Michigan's largest . . . and a three-generation operation is Statewide. Cullan's father, Howard Meathe, was chauffeuring while putting himself through school . . . and today is a consultant with Cullan and the company. Show biz stars are a biggie with Statewide Limousine Service . . . and many folks can say they sat in the same seat as Frank Sinatra, etc. Major rock and roll groups use Cullan's services . . . (Na- tional Concert Transporta- tion is a subsidiary of his) and his cars and employees travel from city to city with the acts so they can rely on one corn- pany and same personnel. Quite a success story .. . from third generation chauf- feur . . . to limo provider for the stars . . . or anyone who wants to use his services .. . which is becoming nationally known. Cullan is only 25 years old. TOMORROW evening is expo and auction by Sisterhood of Temple Beth El on Telegraph . . . Prevue 7:30 and auction 8:30 . . . $5 dona- tion . . . coffee and cakes, wine and cheese. Molly Abraham, restaurant critic/reviewer of Detroit Free Press . . . and Ed Chasteen of Sylvia Lee Desserts, will be featured by Temple Beth El Sisterhood at its luncheon, Jan. 25 . . . ($3.50 members, $4 guests.) TALK ABOUT matchmak- ing . . . how about this Singles Extension Group hereabouts? In March it will celebrate the seventh marriage of folks who have met within year-old club . . . Ann Sak and Bernie Kan- tor, next to have an "I Do" affair, met last Feb. 21 at one of the Singles Extension Group's many shindigs. Next event by this very pro- gressive bunch of guys 'n gals, 50 and over, which has grown to a whopping 350, is Feb. 14 . . . It is sponsored by Temple Israel . . . Mel Hirsch is president. 50-YEAR reunion of Nor- thern High being sought by Annabelle (Kort) Stark is for January and June 1938 classes . . . Annabelle lives at 2805 Mason, Port Huron, Mich. 48060. TEN-YEAR reunion by Southfield High is set for Nov. 26 at Northfield Hilton .. . Contact Gary Lichtman, 642-7444, or Denise Bartlett, 517-546-7627. SECOND YEAR in a row that the recent Chocolate Jubilee by Alzheimer's Disease & Related Disorders Association was a huge suc- cess . . . In fact, it far surpass- ed even last year's biggie .. . Public education is crucial if the battle against this devastating disease is to be won. LOOKING BACK on col- umns of yesteryears .. . NOV. 28, 1947 . . . "During Sunday School classes, Carl Storman asked his group of small boys, 'Who led the children of Israel into Ca- naan?' . . . None of the youngsters volunteered an answer . . . Carl pointed to a lad sitting next to the front and asked him to tell who led the children of Israel into Ca- naan . . . and the youth replied, 'It wasn't me, Mr. Storman, 'cause I just moved here last week.' " I LIKE . . . that sign in Dr. Lawrence Haber's office .. . about not having to floss your teeth . . . only the ones you want to keep. PERCY KAPLAN'S Dept. . . . "A young Israeli lieute- nant on his first assignment was marching his platoon on maneuvers. He gave the com- mand to march toward a cliff. The soldiers were coming dangerously close to the edge, but no order came from the lieutenant. Finally, in desperation, one of them shouted, 'Lieutenant, sir, if you can't say 'halt,' at least say 'goodbye!' " GOOD WAITRESS Dept. . . . Cindy Shimmell . . . at the new Dudley's on W. Huron in Pontiac, Wednesday through Saturday evenings . . . very knowledgeable, personable and efficient.
