HEY JUDE'S Restaurant
is new spot on Baltimore
Ave. between Second and
Third (two blocks from the
Fisher and General Motors
buildings).
It's a "Cheers"-type comfor-
table neighborhood pub
where customers listen to
Motown oldies on the compact
disc juke box while enjoying
a variety of burgers, salads,
sandwiches and munchies.
Future plans call for
musical entertainment and
tournaments in the pub's
already-popular dart room.
Co-owners of Hey Jude's are
Mark Tomalka and Judy
Worrall.
LIONEL HAMPTON will
be "Flying Home To
Paradise" when he returns to
the Paradise Theatre on
Woodward, Jan. 23, for a
special concert sponsored by
Friends of Paradise Theatre.
The concert will be his first
appearance at the Paradise
Theatre since the '40s and
early '50s, when the Paradise
was among the leading jazz
spots in Detroit.
He is known as -"King of the
Vibes" and one of the un-
disputed giants of the jazz
world.
During the 1940s, Or-
chestra Hall was known as
the Paradise Theatre . . . Dur-
ing that time, Detroiters had
an opportunity to see
headline performers like
Duke Ellington, Count Basie,
Dizzy Gillespie, Sarah
Vaughn, Lena Horne, Lionel
Hampton, and many, many
more.
The Paradise closed in 1951
. . . Concerts presented by the
Friends of Paradise Theatre
are intended to resume the
tradition of quality jazz offer-
ings at the Paradise
Theatre/Orchestra Hall.
For ticket info about Lionel
Hampton's "Flying Home to
Paradise" concert, call the Or-
chestra Hall box office,
833-3700, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
weekdays.

EVER WONDER if there
is an easy, fast way to get corn
silk off of a fresh ear of corn?
. . . Well, quit wondering,
because there is . . . Just run
a damp paper napkin
lengthwise down an ear of
corn and the silks will cling
to the paper . . . How's that
for quick and easy?
.
