DANCE WITI-1 ME IDUCIDUCTICNS Michigan's Largest Disc Jockey Company Endless Summer Continued from Page 27 within an hour or two drive from San Diego. Even winter. But what I really miss is cor- ned beef, smoked chubs, and good deli." (Most of us out here would kill for good deli.) Gary (Mumford, 1963) and Marge (nee Ostrow, Mirrnford, 1965) Marx have lived in the golden state since 1970. Marge came to California on a visit in 1967 and "fell in love with it's much freer lifestyle." She believes that "living here doesn't hold people back. Young adults are more apt to act independently of their families?' Gary moved to California with no real expectations. Detroit did not interest him. "I wanted adventure and change. I had always wanted to live in a different place and expose myself and my family to a different environment. I feel that California is a good environment in which to raise kids. The sun shines 300-plus days per year, which allows us lots of time for outdoorsy, healthy activities." Gary believes that, "When you move to Southern Califor- nia, you give up the objective to quickly acquire material wealth in order to start enjoy- ing the environment. Most transplants come to Califor- nia taking a risk and leaving all that is familiar and secure behind. But soon priorities change and the environment takes precedence over material objectives." Gary believes that people in other areas are not risk takers and are less willing to take chances in life. "By leav- ing the security and influence of family behind, people are forced to become more ag- gressive and less conservative in life." Leslie (Mumford, 1961, nee Sklar) Molitz moved to San Diego in 1983. She finds the people in San Diego "not as status conscious or materialistic as people in Michigan. I think people see other people for what they are as opposed to what they have." Melitz views San Diego as "a big melting pot and we're all the immigrants. Because of this phenomenon, I feel it is easier to make friends here than in Detroit, which is a relatively closed community:' Molitz finds that, "one can- not take the Jewish com- munity for granted like one could in Detroit. A person really has to work at being Jewish here. In Detroit you just are Jewish." ❑ • Licensed & Bonded • 15 years experience Why Pay $600 - 5 1,000 for your Bar/Bat Mitzvah or Wedding Reception when Dance With Me Productions offers you the same high quality professionalism and dependability for prices starting at '285/four hours, Call us for a FREE brochure or visit our showroom for a live demonstration by appointment only. 12 Church Street, Clawson 589-2705 CUSTOM FLORAL DESIGNS By Jackie Exotic and very unusual designs.
