Ashman displayed a Yugo- slav government document, dated Dec. 26, 1947, written by Dr. Dusan Nadel Jkovic, president of a state commis- sion. In English translation from Serbo-Croatian, it "declares and confirms" Waldheim, then an official of the Austrian Foreign Ministry, "as a war criminal." The document recommends that the Foreign Office sub- mit the report to the UN War Crimes Commission Unkosher Firm Pays Penalty New York (JTA) — The Il- lionis attorney general's office recently forwarded $100,000 to the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations, the first installment of a $236,000 restitution to be paid by a Chicago poultry pro- cessor and distributor accus- ed of falsely labeling products kosher. The restitution, along with a $14,000 civil penalty for violating Illinois consumer protection laws, is part of a judgment by the Cook Coun- ty Circuit Court against Shelat Kosher Foods Inc. and United Poultry Inc.; the com- panies' president, Sheldon Terman; and their secretary, Michael Terman. Both men were ordered removed from the businesses. British Rabbi Gains Honor London (JTA) — Sir Im- manuel Jakobovitz, chief rab- bi of the British Com- monealth, will be elevated to the House of Lords, the first British chief rabbi to be so honored. Jakobovitz, 66, is one of on- ly three new barons on the Queen's New Year Honors List. In the House of Lords, he will join the archbishops of Canterbury and York, who sit there by virtue of the Church of England's status as the country's established religious body, as well as leaders of the Church of Scotland, the Methodists and other free churches.
