He also pointed out that
Yugoslavia had good
economic relations with
Israel — about $35 million in
combined trade a year, a sum
very important to Yugoslavia
— and that Yugoslavia is
ready to increase the
economic ties.
His country also is in-
terested in tourism from
Israel; the national Yugoslav
airline, Jat, opened a line to
Israel in December.
Kosin noted that many
Israelis of Yugoslav origin
kept in touch with their
former homeland. And he was
optimistic about, further
cultural exchanges.
He said Dizdarevic, the
foreign minister, met with his
Israeli counterpart, Shimon
Peres, last September in New
York during the UN General
Assembly. Kosin said the
Yugoslav explained to Peres
why it was not yet time to re-
establish diplomatic
relations.

Israel Budget
Still Disputed

Jerusalem (JTA) — Conti-
nuing disputes among key
Israeli Cabinet ministers over
fiscal cutbacks forced another
postponement Sunday of a
vote on Finance Minister
Moshe Nissim's proposed
budget package for the
1987-88 fiscal year. Education
Minister Yitzhak Navon and
Health Minister Shoshana
Arbeli-Almoslino, both
Laborites, are at odds with
Nissim, a member of Likud's
Liberal faction, who is deter-
mined to reduce government
expenditures. Navon, whose
ministry took sharp cuts last
year, has asked for a modest
increase in the new budget.
Personal intervention by
Premier Yitzhak Shamir and
Foreign Minister Shimon
Peres over the weekend failed
to bridge the gap. When Com-
merce and Industry Minister
Ariel Sharon threatened to
vote against Nissim's budget,
Shamir decided the issue was
too fraught with controversy
to be voted on Sunday by the
Cabinet.
Education Minister Navon
is standing firm against any
cuts that would spell an end
to free high school education
in Israel.
