Happy New Year From Owner Lloyd Rappoport & Family

DR. CRAIG BROD

scribed by the Consumer Pro-
duct Safety Commission. For
example, a crib's railings
must be no more than three
fingers apart, and it can't
have decorative openings at
the ends that could entrap the
baby's head and neck.
Likewise, check dolls and
stuffed animals for buttons or
ribbons that might come off,
as well as for sharp points or
hard edges.
Classes such as Baby-Life
are a new development, ac-
cording to Beekman. Former-
ly, parents obtained baby care
information from the "park
bench support system," that
is, from family and friends.
Now, many people live far
from their families, and many
women work outside the
home, and so classes have
replaced that informal
system.
Most parents emerge from
the fast-paced class with a
sense of relief, says Meren-
stein, because, with its head-
on confrontations of the dan-
gers, the class dispells those
vague fears most parents
have about their baby's safe-
ty and gives them the sense
that they will know how to
handle an emergency.

Chiropractic Health News

WITH DR. STANLEY LEVINE, D.C.

A Natural Health Family Practice

It's one of the tragic facts of today that many people who have
recurring back pain don't consider it a serious health problem. In
fact, because eight out of ten Americans are struck down with back
problems at one time or another, many people consider back pain
inevitable with advancing age.
"The pain doesn't have to be constant or severe," explains Dr.
Levine, D.C., of Levine Chiropractic Clinic. "It may start as an early
morning 'catch' in the back that disappears as soon as
you begin the day's activity. Or you could be
hit with sharp pain when you get up from a
chair or try to get out of the car after a long
drive. Possibly you find it nearly impossible to
stand erect for long periods of time. Any of
these symptoms may be indicative of a serious
health problem which can become devastating
if left untreated."
As a warning example, Dr. Levine cited
some of the limitations created by a recurring
back problem. The victim can't even lose
himself in his favorite sport or hobby because
of pain. He may spend a lot of time resting
Dr. Stanley Levine
in hopes the pain will subside — time that he would otherwise
spend in recreational activities. In short, his life is dammed up by
back pain, with only a trickle of energy to help him stumble through
the day.
"Why live a half-life?" asks Dr. Levine.
"When you have a toothache, you go to the dentist in hopes
of saving the tooth. Ignoring a toothache could eventually leave
you with dentures, but ignoring a back problem could leave you
crippled for life.
• Dr. Levine explained that the human spine can normally
withstand a lot of strenuous activity and work without any
noticeable signs of pain. But after an injury or strain, even slight
stress may bring pain, and that's a sure sign your spine is in trouble.
As with your teeth, the trouble started long before the pain
appeared.
"Powerful drugs will only mask the problem," warns Dr.
Levine, "doing nothing" about the cause as the extent of the damage
increases. Don't let back pain throw you a curve that will put you
flat on your back. Seek competent, effective treatment early to avoid
a lifetime of suffering."
