Dutch To PrObe
Anti-Semitism

Amsterdam (JTA) — Dutch
legal authorities last week re-
jected a request to appoint a
special prosecutor to in-
vestigate an apparent up-
surge of anti-Semitism in
Holland. The task will be left
to the 18 regional chief pro-
secutors, a decision that was
made in consultation with
Justice Minister Frits Kor-
thals Altes.
Each region has an officer
in charge of investigating and
prosecuting acts of racial
discrimination and hate-
mongering, including anti-
Semitism.
The appointment of a
special prosecutor was re-
quested last week by Hans
Westra, director of the Ann
Frank Foundation, in light of
the repercussions that fol-
lowed the- successful cam-
paign by the Dutch Jewish
community to prevent the
performance in Holland of a
reputedly anti-Semitic play
by Rainer Werner Fassbinder.
The play, entitled "Garbage,
the City and Death," por-
trayed a slumlord and ex-
ploiter know as "the rich
Jew."

Seattle JCRC
Nixes Kadimah

Seattle (JTA) — Kadimah,
the Seattle chapter of New
Jewish Agenda, and the Com-
munity Relations Council of
the Jewish Federation of
Greater Seattle are
negotiating whether
Kadimah can join the council
following its Dec. 2 vote that
denied membership.
The 29-14 council vote
upheld a decision by the ex-
ecutive committees of the
council and federation not to
admit Kadimah, apparently
because its record regarding
Israel does not mesh with the
efforts of the mainstream
Jewish community.
Local chapters of New
Jewish Agenda have been ad-
mitted to Jewish-community
councils in several cities — in-
cluding Ann Arbor, Detroit,
Hartford, Conn., and Los
Angeles — but rejected in
others, such as Washington,
D.C.
