after Gerhardt's drowning.
According to Shilansky, she
confirmed that Miller's den-
tal file was identical with
Mengele's SS dental file, a
copy of which Shilansky gave
her to examine. However, den-
tal records convinced Ameri-
can and Brazilian experts
that Gerhardt was indeed
Mengele.
$3 Billion Aid
To Israel Okayed
Washington (JTA) — House
and Senate negotiators
agreed last week to provide
Israel with $3 billion in
foreign aid in fiscal years
1988 and 1989, and adopted
the Senate's foreign aid debt
restructuring plan that could
save Israel $2 billion over two
decades.
The aid level to Israel was
never in doubt. As was the
• case in 1987, Israel is
designated to receive $1.8
billion in military aid and
$1.2 billion in economic sup-
port — all in the form of
grants.
The full Senate and House
still have to vote on the two
provisions, which are con-
tained in the fiscal 1988
"catch-all" spending bill.
Rabbis Sponsor
Legal Work
Jerusalem — Two hundred
and fifty rabbis from 13 coun-
tries have sponsored a major
work of Jewish law, in
memory of the late halachic
authority Rabbi Moses Feins-
tein. Their names are listed
in the latest volume of the Ot-
zar Haposkim encyclopedia of
Jewish legal decisions,
published in Jerusalem.
Among the rabbis is Rabbi
Elimelech Goldberg of the
Young Israel of Southfield.
