B'NAI ISRAEL OF WEST BLOOMFIELD: Services 9 a.m. Satur- TEMPLE KOL AMI: Services 8 p.m. today. Marsha Greenstein of Oak Park calls it a miracle. And what better time to ex- perience miracles than on Chanukah? The miracle she refers to is the immigration of Boris and Natalie Drigant and their daughter, Marina, from Russia to Southfield. Marina was the Russian Jewish bat mitzvah twin of Mrs. Greens- tein's daughter, Michelle. An even greater miracle, is that Michelle and Marina met. According to Mrs. Greenstein, she learned of the Drigants' arrival in the Detroit area watching the local evening news. To her surprise, the Drigants are residing only a few blocks away from the Greenstein home. Mrs. Greenstein contacted the Drigants and the families met on the third night of Chanukah. The Greensteins made latkes and the girls lit Chanukah candles. Mrs. Greenstein, who in ad- dition to Michelle, was joined by her husband, Richard, and son, Brian, found the Drigants to be "very talkative" and were excited about the families meeting. Although both the Drigants are currently unemployed — Drigant is a mechanical engineer and his wife a librarian — "they are happy to be here," Mrs. Greenstein said. She said the Drigants were eager to speak, and talked at length. The Greensteins told them about the twinning pro- cess. Marina had not receiv- ed any letters from her Michigan "twins," but knew that children elsewhere were sharing their ceremonies with her because they were sending letters to her grand- mother in Israel who in turn communicated the informa- tioh to her. The Drigants are taking English classes at Berkley High School and at the Jewish Community Center. Despite lack of jobs and en- countering new customs in a strange land, the Drigants appeared to be in an upbeat mood, Mrs. Greenstein said. "They really seemed very happy." Alice and Myer Mandelbaum were honored at the annual dinner of Young Israel of Oak Woods. Rabbi Eliezer Cohen, left, makes the presentation to the Mandelbaums.
