Prof. Harold Norris
Harold Norris, professor of
Constitutional Law at the
Detroit College of Law for 27
years, was honored recently
by the Michigan Supreme
Court when he brought his
class to hear oral arguments
at the state's highest court in
Lansing. Prof. Norris has
been bringing his classes to
hear cases argued before the
state's highest court for a
quarter of a century.
State Supreme Court
Justice Patricia J. Boyle
presented Prof. Norris with a
certificate signed by all seven
of the Supreme Court's
Justices.
For many years Prof. Norris
has been a member of the ex-
ecutive boards of the
American Jewish Congress,
the Detroit Jewish Communi-
ty Council, the Anti-
Defamation League and the
Michigan Jewish Historical
Society.
He was elected a delegate to
Michigan's Constitutional
Convention in 1961. While
there, Prof. Norris was the
author of provisions in the
state Constitution pro-
hibiting religious and racial
discrimination, creating a
freedom of expression, expan-
ding the right of petition,
creating a right of appeal in
criminal cases, and was co-
author of the provision
creating the Civil Rights
Commission. An author, he
has written Mr. Justice Mur-
phy and the Bill of Rights, and
Reflections of Law, Lawyers,
and the Bill of Rights.
