Wrapping It Up
For Holidays

Best Wishes

HAPPY ► ANUKA

MANLFACTLEERS Env,

Bank where business banks.

When it comes to helping
out at holiday time, Michigan
Region, Women's American
ORT's a sport. Each year,
chapter members go to area
malls and shopping centers
wrapping presents for harried
shoppers.
According to Region Presi-
dent Ruth Rosenfeld,
"thousands every year" are
raised to benefit ORT projects,
such as its network of voca-
tional schools. "It's (gift wrap-
ping project) is definitely pro-
fitable," Mrs. Rosenfeld said.
"Many hours are put in (by
volunteers). If a business had
to pay for this, the business
wouldn't make such a big pro-
fit?'
Mrs. Rosenfeld said she
couldn't give an exact figure
for monies raised during the
project, which starts right
after Thanksgiving and runs
through Dec. 24, because each
year the malls and number of
locations differ. The giftwrap
service began at Livonia Mall
about 15 years ago. Later
Oakland Mall and Northland
Center donated space.
"They're our staying power,"
Mrs. Rosenfeld said of these
malls.
This year between 150 and
180 volunteers from 14
chapters are working at five
area spots: Oakland Mall,
Northland Center, Livonia
Mall, New Center One and at
Marshall's in Southfield.
Volunteers are at the malls
seven days, and only during
the business week at New
Center One.
She said in addition to
Christmas wrapping, the
ORT chapters are providing
"neutral" wrapping paper, for
people who wish to have
Chanukah and birthday
presents wrapped.

Recall Is
Approved

Petition language to recall
four West Bloomfield
Township trustees was ap-
proved last Friday by
Oakland County Circuit
Judge Hilda Gaga Her ruling
overturned an Oakland Coun-
ty Elections Commission deci-
sion which said the wording
was unclear.
A group called OUST is
seeking the recall, claiming
the four officials have sup-
ported too much development
in the township. OUST must
gather 3,500 signatures
within 90 days to force a
recall election.
