Arab-Owned Electric Co. Loses Clients Jerusalem (JTA) — Thir- teen Jewish neighborhoods in Jerusalem that have received their electric power from the Arab-owned Jerusalem Dis- trict Electric Co. for the past 20 years last Monday were linked to the Israel Electric Corporation's national power grid. The switch went smoothly despite the Arab utility's refusal to cooperate. More than 300 IEC employees car- ried out the carefully plann- ed operation, watched by some 1,000 border police who were mobilized for the occa- sion. The Jewish neighborhoods were built since the 1967 Six- Day War. They received their power from the Arab company under a 60-year-old conces- sion dating from the British Mandate. The concession, which permits the Arab corn- pany to serve other com- munities, expires at the end of this month. The Knesset voted to extend the concession for 12 years on condition that the Arab company reduce its number of clients to overcome its $25 million debt. Israel-Greece Ties Predicted Jerusalem (JTA) — The establishment of full diplomatic relations between Greece and Israel is expected in the next few months, as a result of the three-day visit here by Greek Foreign Minister Karolos Papoulias, last week. That impression was rein- forced by Papoulias at his meetings with Prime Min- ister Yitzhak Shamir and Foreign Minister Shimon Peres. He also told Palesti- nian readers from the West Bank that ties would be im- proved between Greece and Israel, though not at the ex- pense of traditional Greek support of the Palestinian cause, the leaders who met with him said. Papoulias is the first senior member of the Greek Cabinet to come to Israel. He reported- ly told Shamir at their private meeting that the time has come for Greece to extend de jure recognition to Israel and the matter will be dis- cussed by his government shortly. At present, Greece recognizes Israel only de fac- to. Each country has a lega- tion in the other headed by a minister.
