FRIDAY, DECEMBER 11, 1987

hen three stars
appear signals
the end of
Shabbat and the
beginning of a new week, and
hundreds of Detroiters,
participated in a community-wide
Havdalah service last month
sponsored by the Jewish
Experiences For Families
program, the Jewish Community
Center and The Jewish News.
Rabbi Sheldon Lopin, principal
of Akiva Day School, explained
the Havdalah service and helped
young participants in the
program at the Jimmy Prentis
Morris Branch of the JCC.
Following the service, young
and old alike enjoyed dancing,
refreshments, a sing-along, and
gazing at the stars through
telescopes set up on the JPM
lawn. [1]

Above: Rabbi Lopin, Joshua
Zwick, and Judith, Larry and
Beth Horwitz. Below, Aharon
and Ann Gumer, and Simon
Cieck critique the program.
