Tel Aviv (JTA) — The Egyp-
tian Foreign Ministry has
secretly instructed its em-
bassies around the world not
to invite Israeli diplomats in
various countries to festive
Egyptian events, according to
Al-Mustaqbal, a Paris-based,
Arab-language weekly.
The development, which
comes in the aftermath of
Egypt's resumption of
diplomatic relations with
nine Arab countries, was
reported Nov. 25 by Sheffi
Gabai, Arab affairs cor-
respondent of the Israeli dai-
ly Maariv, who quoted the
Paris weekly's report.
The weekly also quoted Jor-
danian Foreign Minister
Taher Al-Masri as saying that
the Arab summit decision
permitting member countries
to renew relations with Egypt
is designed to cut Egypt off
from the Camp David Accords
with Israel.

Illinois Passes
Bias Law

New York (JTA) — After
synagogues and Jewish-
owned businesses were van-
dalized on Chicago's north
side in an apparent anti-
Semitic attack, Illinois Gov.
James Thompson signed leg-
islation last week requiring
state police to report and in-
vestigate racially and
ethnically motivated crimes.
The bill was passed by the
state legislature three days
before the vandalism, but the
governor expedited its sign-
ing following the attack, ac-
cording to Michael Kotzin, ex-
ecutive director of the Greater
Chicago Chapter of the Anti-
Defamation League of B'nai

B'rith.

Illinois is the fourth state to
have enacted a so-called "bias
crimes reporting bill," Kotzin
said, after Connecticut, Penn-
sylvania and Maryland.

Building
Is Pledged

Elaine and Samuel Lieber-
man of Philadelphia pledged
the gift of a building to the
Anne Frank Institute. Re-
cently the mayor of the city,
Wilson Goode, pledged
$300,000 in a matching
grant.
The plan for the center has
from the beginning included
a replica of the hiding place
in which Anne spent two
years.
