f Stuart Rogoff had writ-
ten the lyrics to My Fa-
vorite Things, he most
likely would have included
music and children in his list.
A member of the Class Act
band, Rogoff has played piano
on the bar mitzvah and wed-
ding circuits, is a composer
completing his first record
album and has created a song
which he hopes will become
part of the Anti-Defamation
League's/WDIV-TV's/Detroit
Free Press' "World of Dif-
ference" campaign against
prejudice. In addition, he was
the previous music director of
the Community's Dor L'Dor
intergenerational concert.
Ask him about working
with kids and his face lights
up. "I just love kids. Kids to
me are just the ultimate.
That's why I've always work-
ed with kids. And I look for-
ward to having a lot of kids
and really being a full-time
father sharing in their up-
bringing."
And as a single active in the
Jewish community, Rogoff
has had plenty of experience
working with children. In ad-
dition to the Dor L'Dor con-
certs, Rogoff has been youth
director at Cong. Shaarey
Zedek, teen education direc-
tor at the Jewish Communi-
ty Center, worked for the
Center's day camp, directed a
Jewish day camp — Camp
Shalom — in Grand Rapids
and was a Hebrew school
teacher at the United Hebrew
Schools branch at Adat
Shalom Synagogue.
He sees his contribution to
Jewish communal life as "to
promote the magic and the
wonder of being Jewish, the
positiveness of being Jewish"
to the children with whom he
works. "It would be my hope

that I've been able to open
some doors to kids and excite
them enough to discover their
own Jewishness, their own
identities."
Rogoff, 27, carries this
positive attitude into his life
as a single as well. "Enjoy be-
ing single," he advises. "Be-
ing single should be some-
thing positive. It should be
something temporary. It can
be what you want it to be."
A native Detroiter, Rogoff
holds a B.A. degree in history
and English from Wayne
State University. Currently
an assistant director of the
Michigan Region of the Anti-
Defamation League, Rogoff
has been a board member of
the Jewish Youth Directors
Association of America and a
member of Sigma Alpha Mu
Fraternity.
In his spare time, there's
music, of course, shopping, old
movies and reading, par-
ticularly biographies of per-
formers. He also likes to keep
in contact with the United
Synagogue Youth group he
once directed. But, he always
makes time to socialize and
date. Rogoff said he meets a
lot of people through fix-ups
and goes to many community-
sponsored singles activities.
He enjoys the already
available singles programm-
ing, but added there's room
for more. First, he said a
singles cruise should be of-
fered in the winter. Secondly,
he suggested there should be
"regular, ongoing seminars
and programs," rather than
the occasional lectures offered
at the Jewish Center. Finally,
he recommended that
synagogues and temples
should offer chavurot to
singles. "I think that would
be a good thing to do."
Rogoff said it is not easy be-
ing a Jewish single today
especially in Detroit. "It's not
easy because we live in a very
