Is Bat Mitzvah

Monica Leigh Beck,
daughter of Bill and Irene
Beck of West Bloomfield, will
celebrate her bat mitzvah at
Shabbat services at Temple
Israel on her birthday,
Saturday.
Monica Leigh will twin the
observance of her bat mitzvah
with Alla Vodovoz, a Soviet
teenager whose family has
been refused permission to
leave the Soviet Union.
Monica Leigh has written to
Alla sharing with her
thoughts on her forthcoming
bat mitzvah.
Additionally, Monica has
written a personal letter to
Soviet Premier Mikhail Gor-
bachev requesting the release
of the Vodovozes during the
premier's upcoming visit to
the United States. Monica
has not yet received a reply.

Vacation Camp
Opens In OP

The Oak Park Department
of Recreation is taking ap-
plications for its winter vaca-
tion camp for youngsters age
8-11 and 12-14.
The program includes: all-
day skiing, horseback riding,
indoor ice skating, bowling,
movies and more. The camp
will operate from 9 a.m. to 4
p.m. Dec. 28-30. There is a
limited number of openings.

Emanu El.
Natasha is the daughter of
Robert and Barbara Scheible.
She is the granddaughter of
Ben and Marian Saperstein of
Southfield, Robert Scheible of
Bloomfield Hills and Gerald-
ine Scheible of Warren.
Natasha will twin her bat
mitzvah with Julia
Cherepakhin, daughter of
Oleg and Rosa of Byelorus-
sian, USSR. Julia's father,
Oleg, applied for and was
refused an exit visa. Julia's
grandparents, Efim and
Musia Cherepakhin, left the
Soviet Union in 1973 and now
reside in New York.
The Cherepakhin family is
being refused a visa on the
grounds of "regime considera-
tions," due to Cherepakhin's
5 1/2 years in the Soviet army.
