ATLAS AMBASSADOR KOSHER TOURS Your Home Away From Home 68 FRIDAY, DECEMBER 4, 1987 Jerusalem (JTA) — A dis- pute over the testimony of a defense witness in the trial of suspected war criminal John Demjanjuk forced a three- week suspension of the trial last week. It will resume on December 14. William Flynn, a forensics expert hired by Demjanjuk's supporters in the United States, was excused from giv- ing further testimony after he told the court his sponsors threatened to sue him for breach of contract if he con- tinued on the stand. The threat was made appar- ently because the court re- jected an exhibit prepared by Flynn to show that a key document which could prove Demjanjuk was the brutal guard at the Treblinka death camp, known as "Ivan the Terrible?' could have been forged. Flynn displayed in court a photo montage and a deliber- ately forged document which he presented as proof that an identification card allegedly issued at Demjanjuk by the SS at Trawniki, a training camp for concentration camp guards, could have been forged. 25 W. 43rd St., NYC 10036 (212) 575-8840 Toll Free: 800-752-8000 Per perscn based on double occupancy: minimum room: add 21° . . for tips and taxes. Fassbinder Play Cancelled Amsterdam (JTA)—The premier of a play said by Jews and others to be anti-Semitic was cancelled just before the curtain rose last week when Jewish demonstrators oc- cupied the stage of the Lantern Theater in Rotter- dam, The Netherlands. The resulting furor among many in the audience in the 250-seat theater forced the management to clear the house for safety's sake. Out- side, young Jews demon- strated peacefully with torches and banners. The incident was a repeat of what occurred at the first opening of the play, "Gar- bage, the City and Death," at the Kammerspiel Theater in Frankfurt, Germany on Oct. 31, 1985. The work, by the late West German playwright Rainer Werner Fassbinder, has as one of its principal characters an exploiter known as "the rich Jew." The Frankfurt theater cancelled the performance when about 30 local Jews marched on stage with a ban- ner accusing the producers of "subsidizing anti-Semitism?'
