Her adult choir won national acclaim for a concert it presented at the na- tional convention of the American Conference of Can- tors in 1977. Several of her choirs have appeared exten- sively in concert and on radio has established a subscrip- tion concert series. Admission is free, and the community is invited. LOCAL NEWS Seek Volunteers To Aid Elderly Judith Karzen and television. Since 1984, Karzen has been artistic director and con- ductor of the Halevi Choral Society, which is the only pro- fessional music ensemble in the Midwest devoted ex- clusively to the performance of the Jewish choral repertoire. Under her direction, Halevi Project Outreach, a pro- gram of Jewish Vocational Service which serves isolated Jewish elderly liviing in nur- sing homes, group homes, after-care facilities or by themselves in inner-city apartments seeks volunteers to assist Project Coordinator Miriam Iwrey, who acts as an advocate for these individuals. Volunteers assist par- ticipants during outings, make telephone calls on their behalf and occasionally act as advocates. A few hours per month per volunteer are needed. For information about becoming a Project Outreach volunteer, call Ms. Iwrey at JVS, 833-8100.
