seafood, with amost 40 fish
items on its menu, lunch or
dinner . . . He has 11 fish
tanks at home himself .. .
Another hobby is growing or-
chids and roses . . . Would you
believe that Costas has 900
plants in the house?
He does his growing in the
basement with just hanging
lamps . . . no greenhouse or
any of that fancy easy-does-it
sort of stuff . . . Costas started
growing the orchids as sort of
a challenge . . . His original
hobby was growing roses, and
a friend said that was simple,
but growing orchids took real
skill . . . It's very obvious that
the friend knew absoutely
nothing about growing roses
. . . Costas has 300 rose
bushes outside at home .. .
This summer, all tables at
TK's will be adorned daily
with fresh roses.
Also at TK's is day hostess
Linda Klimis, who was also
daytime hostess at Bonaven-
ture when it opened in 1978,
and stayed on for a couple of
months after Sidney Harris
took over and renamed it
"Sidney's!'
Evening hostess at TK's is
smiling, gracious and efficient
Bobbi Alko.
On the menu at TK's is an
item called Veal Costas, one
of its best sellers, other than
the many many fish items .. .
which was one of the very fine
dishes at Bonaventure.
The lunches and dinners at
TK's are not a la carte,
although its menus would
have people believing so .. .
All include other items that
make up a meal.
There is no signage yet at
TK's because of very strange

interpretation by a new
member of the city's or-

dinance operation . . . The
Dimitri's of Southfield sign
can remain lighted . . .
without violation . . . but
changing it to TK's would be
a supposed code no-no . . .
even though it is not a roof
sign . . . but part of the struc-
ture . . . And get this .. .
owner 'Ibm Kelly is allowed to
have a temporary sign on the
side of his restaurant, but ac-
cording to this newcomer, it
cannot say "now Open" .. .
The wordage must read, ac-
cording to him, "Grand Open-
ing" . . . even though it can
remain up there for 90 days
. . . Have you ever heard of a
90-day grand opening? . . . For
sure there'll be changes
made!
AS WONDERFUL as her
voice is, that's how big a heart
Kate Patterson has . . . She
appears in a long gown for
about an hour performance
every Monday, 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
. . . entertaining patients at

Harper Hospital . . . Recent
session had her bass player
and pianist in tuxedo garb ac-
companying The Whitney's
very fine vocalist . . . Kate
hopes to get other enter-
tainers to join her . . . She's so
sweet, who could refuse? .. .
As sick as they are, the
Harper forget about being in
the hospital . . . For this
precious hour, they are enjoy-
ing a delightul evening at
The Witney . . . thanks to
Kate Patterson.
FOLLOWING the opening
night performance of Kismet
by Michigan Opera Theatre
at Fisher Theatre, many folks
were treated to an added
thrill . . . The afterglow at
Pegasus in the Fisher
Building was an allure of
its Arabian nights show
predecessor . . . Except for the
Greek buffet food, it was an
Arabian enchantment, with
slave girls lining the stairs as
people walked down to
Pegasus, a woman selling
"Baubles, Bangles and
Beads" for donations to MOT,
belly dancers galore terp-
si'ing to the sultry beats of an
Arabic band and people given
"gold coins" . . . (In the show
they are given to beggars).
It was a very warm after-
math to an interesting even-
ing of beautiful music . . .
Kismet is a superb offering of
which more accolades than
could be imagined have been
said.
The Michigan Opera
Theatre, headed by David
Cichera, deserves much ap-
plause for bringing such
operettas like Man of La
Mancha and Kismet to-mix in
with the grand opera heavies.
INGENUITY of two
17-year-old young men, Jay
Lieberman and Joshua Hoff-
man, is the result of their

perserverance to become
showmen . . . They worked all
summer cleaning gutters and
toiling on lawns to raise
enough capital for their
endeavor . . . a teen dance and
concert, this Sunday, at
Premier Center on Van Dyke.
