For the past 18 months,
Max Simon, a retired carpet
salesman who lives in Oak
Park, has been attempting to
get the bath houses going
again. He is looking at the
site where the old Park Hotel
and Bath House stood at
Franklin and Park Streets,
and has the blessing of city
officials.

several other things planned

of people who are interested
in fixing up the old, large
homes and converting them
into bed/breakfast establish-
ments. There's an effort being
made to bring back Mt.
Clemens to what it was in
those early days. There are
always going to be a certain
number of people who'd like
to take advantage of such
treatments as mineral baths."

Simon, who is 69, has 32
baths plan -fled for his bath
house. The site is bought and
two mineral wells capped.

A confirmed believer in the
benefits of the mineral
waters, Simon embarked on a
long road towards developing
a liniment for the skin. Over-
coming the black residue
caused untold problems for
the scientist he had working
on the project. Success final-
ly came after countless
laboratory experiments, and
the result, Ache-away, was
ready for market. Simon sold
the first batch of 200 bottles,
but was unable to finance fur-
ther production.
His plans have now chang-
ed. lb be able to afford to
build a bath house and get it
operational, as well as pro-
duce Ache-away, Simon is
seeking investors with
$300,000.
"I'm not claiming cures of
course," Simon hastens to
point out. "The time is right
for something like this, the
baths and everything. The oc-
cupants of this country have
never been so health-
conscious. They're looking for
natural ways of helping
themselves. I feel there's an
unbelievable reserve of people
who'd take these baths." ❑
