Helen and Paul Zuckerman
had an idea . . . Why not have
a separate affair for the
Michigan Cancer Foundation
to raise money from a group
with its own individual name.
They called it The Angels
and launched organization's
new arm with a $1 million en-
dowment from themselves
and friends . . . Targeted
research programs focused on
various firsts in cancer
research and control
development.
Paul passed on, but his wife
Helen, and their son Norbert,
carry on what has become a
major factor in the world of
MCF.
Recent benefit at the
Whitney Mansion, now a very
highly regarded restaurant
on Woodward, was attended
by about 180 persons.
Kate Patterson, a Mansion
regular, was superb as she
sang songs folks could relate
to . . . in her very fine presen-
tation, beautiful voice and
'gracious poise . . . This was on
the third floor with its bar

lounge . . . Second floor serv-
ed wines . . . and first floor
was elegant dining in the
various rooms (library, study,
etc.) and then wonderful
music by Buddy Greco and
his Quartet.
Senator Donald Riegle
stood out among the crowd .. .
He was the only gent not
wearing a tuxedo . . . Emcee
was — who else — but ef-
fervescent David Hermelin
. . . Seems like he and Max
Sosin are the unofficial com-
munity masters of ceremonies

sauteed duck breast sliced
thin on a bed of seasonal
greens and served with exotic
fruits and walnut citrus
vinaigrette, peach cham-
pagne sorbet, a delicious and
tender piece of sword fish
(others had tournedoe of beef
tenderloin grilled with foie
gras, grilled vegetables with
truffle butter) and pumpkin
cheesecake on cinnamon ap-
ple brandy sauce . . . Between
meals and hors d'oeuvres
