How about Sugar Rautbord, Chicago socialite and author of the steamy Girls In High Places . . . Published by New American Library, the sexy tale of one girl's rise up the corporate ladder is currently number one on the Chicago Tribune best seller list. Sugar was in town to do an interview on Channel 2 plus visit attorney and friend Bob Zeff . . . Future plans for Sugar include a Vogue magazine profile on some real "girls in high places." GOOD WAITRESS Dept. . . . Debbie Carter . . . at Topinka's, Seven Mile and Telegraph . . . back after a stint in Florida . . . and a lot of her old customers are mighty glad. Another visit to Topinka's . . . and another fine evening . . . with Cindy bringing me cup of full-bodied chicken and rice soup, that excellent salad at Topinka's and a complete- ly boneless and tasty piece of white fish . . . Others at our table had the chicken Topinka and raved. The "Starline Revue" is stil there, . . . with sound-alikes that really put their hearts into every beat . . . "Barry Manilow" on "The Copa" is superb, as is Lola; "Phyllis Diller" has a great sense of timing for her very humorous offerings; "Elvis Presley" is everything the audience could ask for; "Lou Rawls" and "Johnny Mathis" are standouts; "Donna Sommers" is wonderful; and "Tina Turner" is a show-stopper .. . Her "Proud Mary" closer is super! T.ICS on former site of Dimitri's of Southfield, Southfield Road and Ten Mile, is officially open .. . specializing in about 40 varieties of fish . . . Dancing comes in January. TO MANY who had their bar mitzvah, wedding or whatever sessions there, Raleigh House will live on in their beautiful memories. The magnificent history established by the late Sam- my Lieberman and his nine partners before selling it, will forever be like a ghost hover- ing within the walls of the new proposed office building. THERE ARE 14 seats at the new Cucino-di Pasta on Boardwalk, Orchard Lake Road south of Maple, plus eight tall ones at standing counters . . . But they are there mostly as a convenience for folks eating a quick made- on-the premises pasta salad (there are 12 of them) . . . The no salt pastas are made in Cucino-di Pasta's window .. . including some made with egg whites (no yolks) . . . and nine different cuts in every flavor a person wishes .. . hung to dry on racks, where people can pick their favorites. It's owned by Kevin Gawronski who has another like operation on Grand River in Novi. Cucino-di Pasta isn't just a pasta place . . . It also has gourmet specialities . . . oils, vinegars, artichokes, very popular Mr. Don cookies, Lit- tle Pepe's pizzelle wafers, various snack cookies, etc. . . . It also makes its own cakes on the premises . . . plus various blends of cappucino and deca- feinated espresso . . . I had an amaretto decaf espresso and was amazed with each sip .. . It's that good . . . People pick out ingredients and make own gift baskets to suit each person and individual desires . . . It also makes its own sauces. WONDER WHY Dept. . . . CKLW Radio doesn't play any Spike Jones numbers of yesteryears . . . like "Cocktails For Two," etc. BILLY ROSE Trio is now both Sunday and Monday evenings at 1940 Chop House . . . with Don Vargo's popular E. Jefferson dining spot open for dinners on Sundays, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. . . . During the week, Tuesday-Saturday, are song stylings of Ava Trombly with Tom Taylor at the keyboard. WHO SAYS an ice cream parlor has to shut down dur- ing the cold winter? . . . And just because it'll be called Cindy's Sundae Lovers doesn't mean Bob and Cindy Schwartz's place opening this month will only have sundaes. Their spot on Haggerty, just south of 14 Mile, will seat 20, be an all-year-round opera- tion, serve cones, sodas, Guernsey ice cream of all flavors, Colombia Yogurt with fresh fruit, etc. . . . Bob and Cindy are newlyweds . . . married only about three weeks. IT NOT ONLY has a cer- tified master chef (Leopold Schaeli) . . . but the Machus organization now also has five certified master bakers .. . The honor was given to Pearl Thouin, manager of the Pastry Shops; and master bakers Maria Tisch, Wes McGuire, Preben Hansen and Al Elhers. The prestigious awards are presented by the Retail Bakers of America in recogni- tion of bakers who have special aptitude and knowledge, work experience, training and education .. . The five certified master bakers have a total of 160 years experience.
