FRIDAY. NOV. 13. 1987

First Center Building • Suite 115
26955 Northwestern Hwy., Southfield, MI

e Jews are our own
worst enemy.
Hyman
Bookbinder, long-time
Washington representative
for the American Jewish
Committee, and James G.
Abourezk, founder and chair-
man of the American-Arab
Anti-Discrimination Commit-
tee, debate U.S. policy toward
Israel in the book they co-
authored, called Through Dif-
ferent Eyes.
Abourezk,
leading
American supporter of the
PLO — the PLO that has
murdered tens of thousands of
innocent Arabs and Jews —
claims he is against violence.
He says Arafat is a Palesti-
nian leader that only wants
peace for his people.
Bookbinder says if the PLO
would recognize "Israel's
legitimacy" and promise
peace, then Israel should be
generous. In exchange for
their promise of peace he
wants to give the PLO the
heart of the land of Israel, the
land of our Forefathers, the
hills that command Tel Aviv
and surround Jerusalem as
well as Israel's natural
defense line, the deep Jordan
River rift. For that promise of
peace Bookbinder would put
the very survival of the
Jewish state at the whim of
those noted for their violence,
their vehement hate of Jews
and for their breaking of
agreements.
Hyman Bookbinder and his
American Jewish committee
strongly support the Reagan
Middle East peace plan. That
"peace" plan not only calls for
Israel to return to the 1949
cease-fire lines — which is a
death-trap leaving the coun-
try a mere nine miles wide at
its center — but also the plan
would allow Israel to keep its
capital Jerusalem only if the
Arab states agree.
The Administration argues
the Arabs would not be
enemies of Israel anymore
once they sign a peace treaty
and recognize Israel. Book-
binder accepts that danger-
ous nonsense that with such
a treaty, Israel will not need
to worry about having wide-
open borders almost impossi-
ble to defend. He accepts that
just because of that piece of
paper, Israel will never have
to face war ever again!

Hymie Cutler is chairman of
Americans for a Safe Israel's
Metro Detroit Chapter.

Of course, the Arabs of
Judea-Samaria (the West
Bank) and Gaza fully support
the PLO. They would be crazy
not to. All this talk of turning
the terrorities over to the
PLO tells them they'd better
not be friendly to Jews. In re-
cent months, 22 Arabs in the
area who displeased the PLO
were murdered. The Arabs
know that the PLO murdered
tens of thousands in Lebanon,
the land where Moslems,
Christians and Jews had once
lived peacefully before the
PLO took over.
Most of the organized
violence in the territories
against Arabs and Jews — the
stabbings, the rock-throwing
and firebombs that injure and
kill travelers, the riots, the in-
timidations of local Arabs and
preventing them from going
to work — is coming from the

Bookbinder would
put Israel's
survival at the
whim of those
noted for their
violence.

United Nations camps and
the Arab universities in the
area. Those institutions are
supported by our American
tax money with no objection
ever raised by the
Washington representative of
the American Jewish
Committee.
Both Abourezk and Book-
binder peddle the idea that a
Palestinian Arab people,
native to Palestine, was
displaced by Jewish
Holocaust survivors and both
say those "Palestinians" have
"legitimate rights." That is
the same as what the PLO
says: "Jews robbed Palesti-
nians of their homeland, and
we are their freedom
fighters." But that is a lie to
excuse and justify violence.
Almost 40 years have gone
by since the Arab countries
failed in 1948 to destroy
Israel and created the Arab
refugees. Should the world
community look after them
and their offsprings forever?
Rather than help their
refugees, the Arab states
established the PLO in 1964
and has been financing them
ever since for the express pur-
pose to destroy Israel. To
those Arab states, the
elimination of Israel is an
Islamic holy mission, more
important than the welfare of
their people. Those UN camps
produce the "homeless
Palestinians" for the future
