Jewish Liturgical Art
Focus Of Temple Event

Sculptures, lithographs,
ceremonial objects and music
will fill Thmple Beth Emeth
in Ann Arbor on Dec. 5 and 6
as the congregation holds its
second Festival of Jewish
Liturgical Arts.
This year a musical ele-
ment has been added.
Scheduled for performance by
the Temple Beth Emeth
Choir are three works by the
Israeli-born composer Bonia
Shur. Shur is director of
liturgical arts at Hebrew
Union College-Jewish In-
stitute of Religion in
Cincinnati.
Also on the program are
two shorter works by Bonia
Shur: Neranenah (Let Us
Sing Joyfully), and Yis'mach
Moshe for choir, flute, and
guitar, both based on Hasidic
tunes.
Musical direction for the
concert is by Marilyn Krimm,
the temple's cantorial soloist.
The part of the narrator in
The Hallel will be spoken by
Rabbi Robert Levy of Ibmple
Beth Emeth.
The visual arts will be
represented at the gallery
showing and sale devoted to
Jewish liturgical objects for
the home on Dec. 5 (9:30 a.m.--
10:30 p.m.) and Dec. 6 (2 p.m.--
5 p.m.) Mounted by the
Cleveland-based traveling art,
gallery called Traditions: Art
Judaica, the exhibit features
ceramics, sculpture, fiber art,
woodcarving, graphics, stain-
ed glass, and papercasting.
Ceremonial objects include
candlesticks for the Sabbath,
Hannukah menorahs, and

Passover Seder plates, as well
as decorative art with biblical
or Jewish cultural themes.
Among the featured artists
are: Hana Geber, sculptor;
Lee Bleifeld, sculptor; Amos
Amit, batik artist; Mary Et-
ta Moore, silkscreen and
papercut artist; Rob Lipnick,
ceramic artist.
The public is invited.
Tickets can be purchased at
the door.

'The Lobby'

present the fourth of five
reviews on the theme "New
Jewish Books Worth
Reading" at 8:30 p.m. Nov. 23.
He will discuss The Lobby by

Tel Aviv (JTA) — The Israel
Philharmonic Orchestra
(IPO) left last week on a
11-day tour of Poland and
Hungary that its conductor,
Zubin Mehta, said he hoped
would lead toward the Soviet
Union.

Warsaw, Cracow, Katowice,
