Jennifer Lutz will twin her
bat mitzvah with Katrina
Gagkayer of Moscow,
daughter of Alexander and
Nataly Gagkayer, today at
Temple Beth EL.
Katerina's father applied
for exit visas for his family in
1978 and was refused. Gag-
kayer was one of the major ar-
chitects on the indoor
stadium which was used for
the Moscow Olympics.
As soon as Gagkayer ap-
plied for his family's visas, he
was fired from his job. The
Gagkayers have relatives in
Israel and hope to be re-
united soon.

High Holiday
Appeal Totaled

The 5748/1987 Rosh
Hashanah/Yom Kippur Ap-
peals in behalf of State of
Israel Bonds achieved a
record $59.8 million in new
Bond subscriptions, it was an-
nounced by Brig. Gen. (Res.)
Yehudah Halevy, president of
the Israel Bond Organization,
and Rabbi Stanley M. Davids
of New York, national chair-
man of its Rabbinic Cabinet.
The results of this year's
holiday Bond appeals, which
were conducted in more than
1,100 synagogues in the
United States and Canada,
and which celebrated the
20th anniversary of the
reunification of Jerusalem,
represented a $3.8 million
growth over the 1986 holiday
figures.
In Metro Detroit the holi-
day appeal, under the chair-
manship of Max Sosin, was
held in 19 synagogues and
temples and raised more than
$1,321,500, an increase over
1986 of 18 percent.
