!BEST OF EVERYTHING

I

Imagine

Continued from Page 72

whole pizza without buying
another one . . . or anything
else! . . . That's what folks get
with a coupon in today's
Jewish News . . . from Pizza
Plus, Beech at Nine Mile, in
9-Beech Plaza . . . Small piz-
za with cheese no charge .. .
75 cents extra for other items
. . . That means you can have
a pizza with cheese and pep-
peroni or green pepper or
whatever for 75 cents! . . . No
gimmick . . . just Ed George's
way of saying hello in this
new business.
IT'S USUALLY a good
idea to visit a place second
time after giving it a rave
revue . . . Sultan's on Orchard
Lake Rd., hidden on the south
side of Robin's Nest Shopping
Center, is much proof that if
a place is good, people will
find it . . . The chicken I had
was excellent again, extreme-
ly tender . . . and those grape
leaves stuffed without meat
are positively wonderful .. .
That chicken, by the way, is
not your ordinary poultry .. .
Owner Walid Eid buys the
very best and it shows .. .
even though his prices are
much lower than folks would
imagine for the founder of
Phoenicia with his brother
Sameer.
THAT BIG beautiful Vic's
Fruit Market everybody
seems to have been waiting
for at Country Corners,
Southfield and 13 Mile, is
finally open . . . and so color-
ful too . . . with various hues
painted in the noted Jeff
Scissors style.
ANNUAL FALL Hungar-
ian Festival of Music by Blue
Danube on Ottowa Street in
Windsor is Nov. 17 and 18 .. .
Show admission is $8 . . . Din-
ner reservations begin at
6 p.m.

JACK MCCARTHY'S

Aristocrat . . . has re-opened
. . . under a new name at
Crosswinds (former Pine
Lake Mall), Orchard Lake Rd.
and Pine Lake Rd. . . . With
Jack now living in Florida
and commuting for his Friday
Feast tapings over Channel 7,
the restaurant has reverted
back to its original owner .. .
and boasts a new chef, Scott
O'Dell, former chef at Or-
chard Lake Country Club
eight years . . . with Pierre
Laxa general manager . . .
New Medallion Restaurant
hours are Tuesday through
Thursday, 5-11 p.m.; Friday
and Saturday, 5 p.m.-12 mid-
night; and Sunday,
4-9 p.m.
SENIORS 65 and older are
getting a free Thanksgiving
dinner from Lucky Vasilakis
and George Bricolis at Sero's
of Rochester Hills on Walton
Blvd. . . . Handicapped per-
sons, also . . . It'll be complete

with all the trimmings bet-
ween 2 and 6 p.m.
THEY USED to call the
former Vineyard's locale at
Franklin just off North-
western a restaurant complex
. . . Well, now, for sure that's
what it's going to be . . . with
three restaurants all under
the same roof . . . and owned
by the same person . . . Norm
LePage.
Scheduled
to
open
sometime in January is
Salvatore Scallopini . . . at
the site of Vineyard's former
Annex, Benny's, Marlowe's
and presently-closed Gravity
cocktail lounges . . . It'll seat
114 with a separate kitchen
being built for the all-new
restaurant . . . and serve
strictly traditional Italian
fare.
The new eatery will be own-
ed solely by Norm LePage,
who also owns Norm's Oyster
Bar and Nifty's Grill at the
same site . . . and also have its
own private ingress for carry-
out facilities . . . Norm's
Salvatore Scallopini here is
being developed by Larry
Bongiovanni, long-time
friend from 1973 when Norm
and Bonnie LePage bought
Squire's Table, now Nifty Nor-
man's on Commerce Lake Rd.
... They also own Norm's
Eaton Street Station in
Birmingham.
The new Salvatore Scalop-
pini which you could also call
Norm's Salvatore Scallopini
(and many folks will), is also
set to have its own separate
entrance.
Norm's Oyster Bar, by the
way, is probably one of the
most underrated restaurants
around . . . seating 180 for
lunch and dinner . . . At both
times there are no more oil
cloth table tops . . . Strictly
linen tablecloths under glass
tops, and linen napkins.
WONDER WHY it's taken
so long for someone to grab up
former Jan Drake's of West
Bloomfield restaurant on
Northwestern and 14 Mile?
. . . It's a very prime locale .. .
and a sure bet for gobbling up
by some enterprising restau-
rateur . . . Signs have been
there for some time now
about hiring . . . Don't know
what it will be, but can't
think of anything else other
than a restaurant.
NEXT TIME you pass the
former Raleigh House,
Telegraph and Ten Mile, take
a good long look . . . It may be
the last one you'll get of this
one-time great catering hall
that was allowed to flounder
in other directions.
Previous Raleigh House is
scheduled to be torn down
and a six-story office building
put in its place . . . Its looks
will be totally different.
