JARC Gershwin Concert

Tickets are still available
for the Great Gershwin Con-
cert, a benefit for the Jewish
Association for Retarded
Citizens, to be held on Nov. 18
at Ford Auditorium at 8 p.m.
The show features Mel
Ibrme, Leslie Uggams, and
Peter Nero along with the
15-piece Festival Concert
Orchestra.
Conceived and written by
ibrme, the only Deteroit per-
formance will cap a six week
national tour of the show,
designed to celebrate the 50th
anniversary of George Ger-
shwin's death.
Ibrme is a singer, composer,
drummer, TV talk show host,
musical arranger, dramatic
ress, Uggams has starred in
numerous television movies
and miniseries including
Backstairs at the White House,
Sizzle, and HBO's Christmas
at Radio City Music Hall. For
her portrayal of Kizzy in
The Nov. 18
concert at Ford
Auditorium will
help fund JARC's
programs for the
retarded.
Roots she received the Critics'
Choice Award and an Emmy
nomination for best leading
actress.
She has recorded ten
albums for Columbia Records,
won a Ibny Award for best ac-
tress in a musical for Hallelu-
jah, Baby! and returned to
Broadway to star in Blues in
the Night and Jerry's Girls.
Composer, symphony con-
ductor, arranger and virtuoso
pianist, Nero has recorded 51
albums, won two Grammy
Awards, ten Grammy
nominations, and a million-
selling gold single and
albums, Summer of 42.
