RHEA SIEGEL, 77, died
Oct. 31. She leaves her hus-
band, Sam; a son, Marvin; a
daughter, Mrs. Robert (Joan)
Brookes; and five
grandchildren.
Louis Elliman
Louis E. Elliman, who died
Nov. 2 at age 91, had a
checkered career. A native of
Ireland, where his father was
a leader in the Jewish Na-
tional Fund, to his many in-
volvements in Jewish and
civic services here, he rose in
the past few years to philan-
thropic accomplishments
when he established the
Louis Elliman Clinical
Research Building at Wayne
State University.
A close friend of Mayor
Robert Briscoe of Dublin,
Ireland, Mr. Elliman hosted a
dinner in his honor on the
mayor's visit here about 25
years ago.
With his wife, Mollie, he
was active for many years in
Israel Bonds. His name is in
the Golden Book of the JNF.
President and founder of
the Elliman Steel Co., he was
a member of the 100 Club and
the Masons. He was a life
member of Temple Beth El,
Men's ORT and B'nai B'rith.
Earlier this year, he received
the Knights of Charity
Award.
Besides his wife, Mr.
Elliman leaves a brother, Dr.
Joseph of Dublin; four sisters,
Mrs. Dora Mann and Mrs.
Anne Hagard, both of Lon-
don, England, and Mrs.
Harry (Ethel) Jacobs and Mrs.
Uky (Ada) Fine, both of
Dublin.
William Bliznick
William Bliznick, a
classical violinist, conductor
and composer, died Oct. 29 at
age 76.
Born in Russia, Mr. Bliz-
nick came to Detroit as a
youth and had been active in
classical music circles since
the 1930s. He conducted the
Chord of Judea orchestra of
more than 100 local, Jewish
classical musicians, who pro-
vided free concerts with the
aid of Work Projects Authori-
ty funding for four years dur-
ing the Depression.
During World War II he was
a salesman, but appeared fre-
quently as a guest soloist at
many concerts. Mr. Bliznick
was active in Jewish com-
munity groups and supported
many charities.
He is survived by his wife,
Rose; two sons, Edward (Ed-
die Jaye) and Kenneth; a
sister, Mrs. Ida Goldman of
Chicago, Ill.; and two
grandsons.
