Mondry, general chairman of the event. A member of the anti-Nazi underground during World War II and a leader of the ear- ly post-war anti-Communist student movement in his native Budapest, Con- gressman Lantos came to the United States in 1947 on a Hillel Foundation scholar- ship. He received his B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of Washington, and his Ph.D. degree from the University of California at Berkeley in the field of inter- national economics. Con- gressman Lantos was elected to Phi Beta Kapa. For three decades he work- ed as a professor of economics, television analyst and business consultant. His government service includes senior advisory roles in the fields of economics and foreign policy. Congressman Lantos is cur- rently a member of the Com- mittees on Foreign Affairs, Government Operations and the Aging. He is the ranking majority member of the Sub- committee on Europe and the Middle East, chairman of the Employment and Housing Subcommittee of the Govern- ment Operations Committee and also serves as chairman of the Permanent United States Congressional Delega- tion to the European Parlia- ment/European Common Market. He is the author of the legislation conferring Agency Awards Distributed The Jewish Welfare Federa- tion and its member agencies will present the first Agency Leadership Awards at a champagne reception on Nov. 17. Set for 7:30 p.m. at the main Jewish Community Center, the evening is planned as a tribute to JWF agency board members whose commitment and leadership have enabled their agency to render the highest quality of service to the community. Federation Vice President and JWF/Agency Education Committee Chairman Edythe Jackier will preside, and agency presidents will pre- sent the awards.
